The rest of the day was surprisingly uneventful. Jinyoung had snuck out to by them a little board game, and Hyunsuk naturally won a game of Monopoly ("rich kid" Yonghee had muttered under his breath, salty after coming in last).
"How do we feel about a little bit of stargazing?" Seunghun asked, gesturing outside before Yonghee could flip the board halfway through the game.
"Sure." Hyunsuk dropped his thimble piece, switching gears immediately. Byounggon and Jinyoung nodded in agreement, and Yonghee only fawned over the game for a few more moments before sighing and following behind.
Byounggon cracked open the curtains, staring up at the sky. The sky was very dim, the moon nowhere to be spotted.
"Aw, it's a new moon," Hyunsuk sighed. "I like looking at the full moon."
"I'll actually have you know that new moons have a good meaning," Seunghun piped up. "They basically talk about new beginnings, especially as the start of the new lunar cycle."
"I didn't know you were into astro—" Byounggon paused. "I don't know which one it is."
"Neither do I," Seunghun laughed. "But hey, you have to admit that that's a pretty good meaning."
"I like that," Jinyoung agreed. "It's almost sweet."
Seunghun sighed, effectively agreeing. "Do you think we'll have a fresh start too?"
"Maybe." Yonghee shrugged, shoving himself between Seunghun and Jinyoung. His face changed. "But do you guys hear that?"
"Hear what?" Jinyoung asked.
"I don't know." Yonghee paused, holding out a finger to silence the room. "No, I hear something really high. Not crying... but—"
"Screaming?" Seunghun suggested.
"Not quite."
"Squealing?" Byounggon offered.
"Same thing. It's... wailing."
"Wailing?" Hyunsuk asked.
Yonghee nodded to confirm. "Wailing."
"Wait!" Jinyoung held out a hand, similar to the way that Yonghee had done it. "I think I hear it too."
Byounggon's eyes widened. "So do I!"
Seunghun strained for a moment longer. "What is it?"
Hyunsuk's eyes widened, notifying the others that he had heard it, but they were so wide it was apparent that he had figured it out. "That sound, it's definitely..."
Sirens.
