The moment she learned that her brother was having a hard time ruling the clan as he's more suited for battles, she wanted him to be at ease and leave the dirty politics to her.

A certain young fox who was nodding off to sleep suddenly widened his eyes after hearing what the lady said.

She will be what?

Where would that leave him? His purpose for this journey was to accompany her to Huo Ai. What would he do right after? Wait, aren't they in Huo Ai already? Kind of.

This area of spirit clouds was the so-called boundary. With permission from a direct descendant of one of the Founding clans, even if it was tacit, he could enter. But he didn't know what would come next.

"What?" She heard the vile woman.

"Nothing!" His mouth automatically defended himself.

Qiaoli eyed him suspiciously but he didn't say anything. He would just decide when the vile woman was safely in her new home.

The day after, two groups separated ways in the Valley of Mist. The entrance to Huo Ai.

This mist was acting as the barrier caging the people of Huo Ai inside their territory. Those who weren't eligible for exit would find themselves lost in the mist and go back to where they entered from no matter how many times they tried.

Of course, some people would still try but the results are the same.

"I'm still annoyed." Duke Li took the lead while flicking his whip at the fog in front of them.

The wind picked up and the mist made way a bit. Partially because of the force and mostly because of the spiritual energy infused with the whip. He continued doing this while raising the crystal lamp each one of them had.

Nuan Lin Che was oddly quiet and just followed him. Who knew what he was thinking of?

This was quite the dilemma they were both facing. The duke's parents were killed most probably on orders by the Emperor. And the prince was the favored son of that emperor. It was a miracle how they were able to travel together.

Qiaoli was basically forcing the Duke to be lenient on his enemy. Something Li Yun had never done before.

He sighed. "Your Highness, you can treat this as my meeting gift to a'mei."

The Prince gave a rare wry smile. He actually wanted to be captured by the Duke. That way, he wouldn't have to face his Imperial Father.

Looks like that wish wouldn't be granted.

"This prince will lay low for a while. The Censor missing will undoubtedly raise Imperial Father's suspicion."

Indeed, Li Yun thought. It looked like the imperial son also had a brain. Well, he wouldn't work with him on occasions if he didn't know about it.

A lot of things would change in the coming days.

"Young miss, I'm wondering if you ever ate a tiger's gall while growing up." Ying with his easygoing smile said while they were speeding inside this mist.

Qiaoli was riding her own horse now that her overprotective brother wasn't here.

Unlike the Duke's party, they didn't need to be careful with the fog. Si Hai helped them navigate the mist as he could control a bit of it.

The youngest Lu was looking alert and serious as opposed to his brother.

"I don't really need to eat any gall. Someone who experienced the things I have can gamble at high stakes."
