A Fateful Encounter: Tangled Paths

Takemichi's POV

We ran. 
Our footsteps echoed against the pavement as we raced toward the school, our breaths coming in quick gasps.

"I should've driven," I muttered between breaths, already regretting the decision to walk.

Thankfully, when we arrived at the school, the gates were still open. Relief washed over us as we slowed our pace, taking in the sight before us. The school's exterior wasn't as grand as some of the public schools you'd find in the U.S., but there was a calm, almost serene atmosphere that those schools lacked. It was like stepping into a peaceful haven.

Naku-chan and I exchanged a glance before we both stopped in the middle of the courtyard. Now that we were here, the nerves were kicking in. Being new always came with its own set of challenges, and the quiet surroundings only amplified that feeling. The lack of students bustling around confirmed that we were cutting it close—most were already in class.

We both breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that we weren't late.

As we entered the main doors, we were greeted by a small group of students waiting near the entrance. My cousin's face lit up as he spotted them, his eyes widening in excitement.

"Nakuri-chan!" 
Several voices rang out in unison, and a mix of boys and girls rushed toward us.

I was taken aback by their enthusiasm, but Naku-chan seemed thrilled, his face breaking into a broad smile.

"Guys!!" Naku-chan exclaimed as the girls enveloped him in tight hugs.

"Oh my gosh, I missed you all!" Naku-chan beamed. It was clear that these were his friends from elementary school, and although they had kept in touch online, seeing each other in person again was something special.

"Yeah, we missed you too!" they chorused, completely oblivious to my presence.

Not that I minded. I was happy for Naku-chan; I knew how it felt to reunite with friends you hadn't seen in ages. 

"Sheesh, still as pretty as ever," one of the girls teased, nudging Naku-chan playfully.

"Geez, stop with the lies..." Naku-chan mumbled, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

"But it's true~," a boy added, causing Naku-chan's blush to deepen, which only made them laugh harder.

"But seriously, why are you all waiting out here?" Naku-chan asked once the laughter had subsided.
