[Third POV]
It was lively through the streets of Gotham. Police sirens were ringing from afar, people were laughing or chatting as (Y/N) made her way home. In her head, Artemis' words still repeated over and over again. 'Maybe dating Jason was a bad idea'
Not that it was the wrong choice, but it wasn't the right time. She began to realize that she needed to take things slowly. So much happened during that period, and for Jason to ask her out, it wasn't enough time for her to reflect.
'Geez, I need therapy...' She unlocked the door to her house, turned on the lights and made her way to the bedroom she shared.
There, she found Jason sitting in a chair, with a thread in his mouth as he attempted to stitch his cuts. She noticed a few small bruises on his face and neck.
"Mind telling me who outsmarted you this time?" Her sarcastic voice startled him a bit, thinking she might be upset because of how he came back.
"Uh, no one outsmarted me. These are battle scars, thank you very much" He hissed when he accidentally pulled the thread harshly.
A smile grew on her face, "Here, I'll finish stitching you up. You're turning 22 this year and you're still horrible at it" He silently watched (Y/N) take the lead and start moving the needle into his skin.
"Agh! Come on-" he grunted. "Are you aware that- ugh- every time you do this- argh! I wonder if you're just as bad- ergh!"
"I'm doing it the fastest way possible. You're doing it the slowest and painless way possible"
He kept quiet. 'It always ends this way when I come back. She probably hates it when I return like this.' With every movement of the needle, he held back noises. It wasn't an unbearable pain, but just feeling the needle going through your skin while your injury is being touched, it's painful in some way.
After she was done treating his wounds, he rested on top of the bed and unintentionally fell asleep before she did, not realizing he was really fatigued. She laid there next to him, carefully touching his hair strands with her finger. 'No, it wasn't a bad idea. I still love him.'
"I like him too"
Artemis' words snapped her out of her trance. She sighed and got off the bed as slow as possible. 'Does the fact that she expressed that in front of me imply that my feelings for him aren't clear enough?'
'That's probably the case. I am well aware of the truth. I haven't even tried to start a kiss yet. Jason is the one who always takes the initiative'
She took the house's garbage bags outdoors to the trash cans outside the basement they shared with their neighbor. She lifted the lid and placed the huge bags inside. Just as she put the lid back on, something felt off.
The cold breeze made goosebumps form on her skin. She didn't bring her sweater since it was just a quick trip to the basement, but that wasn't what had her on edge.
She turned around and swung her leg in a quick motion. Her suspicion turned out to be right. Her kick was diverted by the person behind her.
She couldn't tell who the individual was since it was dark and they were wearing some kind of covering. She was ready to use the technique her father taught her, pretending to roundhouse kick them, but instead bringing her fist to their face. Though as always, she ended up kicking them with her other leg. It wasn't the way he taught her but it still worked well.
When they fell to the ground, she could finally sort of decipher what the person was wearing. Bandages wrapped around their face... and a huge brown coat.
