As if he wasn't already suspicious... but Aizawa couldn't help but notice Light spending more and more time a very particular part of the case.

He was very into tracking down the location of the second death note, and took on the role of a leader almost. He was directing the others around him on where to investigate... almost as if he was trying to steer them in the opposite direction. Now he had L out of the way, he could control the case from the inside and keep suspicions off himself. But Aizawa noticed.

He noticed but didn't really know what to do.

He and L may not have been close while L was alive, and he did blow up at L that one time... but he couldn't deny that L was the whole reason the case got as far as it did. And now that L was gone and Aizawa had the power of hindsight he realised that maybe L was onto something.

"You know... I don't really know what to do anymore. Light is just getting more and more suspicious"

No response.

"I mean, I don't WANT him to be Kira. I've known his father since we first joined the police and I saw Light grow up, I don't want someone close to me to be a killer but... I don't know, it's getting harder and harder to ignore his strange behaviour..."

Again, silence.

"I don't even know why I'm doing this, I guess I just feel lost. You're dead, you can't respond to me but... I need help. It's like I'm the only one that can see the inconsistencies. Listen I know we didn't see eye to eye when you were alive, but I'll admit that you're the whole reason we've made it this far. You pissed me off sometimes but your mind was that of a super computer, I respect that. And... the fact you made sure we were all financially stable when he had to quit the force to keep investigating... you may not have been that good at expressing emotions but that showed you cared about us. You didn't have to do that, but you did. Thanks to you, my wife and daughter could keep living their life and normal and I didn't have to run around looking for a new job and risk putting financial strain on them..."

He couldn't actually believe it'd come to this. Aizawa felt bad that whoever L's family was, where ever they were didn't have his body in their own county. L and Watari were both buried in Japan, and here Aizawa was standing at the grave yet again, first time since the funeral. He just didn't know what to do, and even if L couldn't respond to him, he just wanted some kind of answer to the problem of Light being Kira.

"Whoever your family is, I hope they're doing ok after... everything. Even if we weren't the best of friends, I didn't want you dead..." Aizawa sighed.

Closure. That's what he wanted. He wanted this whole thing to be over, wrapped up with a little bow on top and put away forever. He didn't want Light to be Kira but deep down he knew he was. He just wanted this whole horrible case done with.

L didn't deserve to die, neither did Watari. Cheif Yagami didn't deserve to have the pain of his only son being a murder, Kira of all people. The rest of the taskforce didn't deserve to have the whole case resting on their shoulders when there were only 4 of them excluding Light.

All of this, it was a mess. A horrible, tragic, traumatic mess.

"Damnit-" Aizawa sighed, resting his head in his hands "What am I even doing? I'm talking to a grave... maybe the case has finally driven me crazy"

He couldn't quit now, he'd come so far. He needed to stop Kira so his daughter didn't have to live in a world surrounded by death. So those falsely accused of a crime didn't die. So those who had no choice but to fall into crime for socioeconomic reasons could get help, and not die. And he had to see this through so L didn't die for nothing.

But how the hell did he tell his long time friend that his son was probably Kira? How did he convince the taskforce that L was probably right? And that Lights actions after his death are more and more strange. He understood why they didn't seem to see it, because they were all in denial. But Aizawas hot-headed and logical mindset meant he could see through the facade now he'd had the wake up call that was L dying right in front of everyone.

"You know... they put your body in a suit when you were prepared for burial. I bet you'd have hated that, seeing as your only outfit combo was that blue jeans and white shit... I bet if you knew that your funeral was a run of the mill one with no personal touches or consideration for what you wanted you'd be mad. But... we knew so little about you we couldn't really do anything. I suppose you'd approve of the cakes they served though, sickeningly sweet as you liked" Aizawa sighed.

He just starred at the headstone. The death note that his name was written in revealed his full name, and that was the only personal detail that they'd ever learnt about him.

L Lawliet.
31 October 1982 - 5 November 2007
A mystery in life, whose secrets were taken to the grave.

Who knows what L would have done with the case if he'd had lived? And who knows if it's end in Lights rightful conviction.

"Look, I may not have been that nice to you... but I didn't really hate you. I just, got frustrated and said some things I didn't mean. I'm sorry... you're the only one that can fix this mess, and you're gone now. What the hell am I meant to do now? I don't want him to be Kira but... he is... I know he is. You were right..." Aizawa sighed.

Strangely, he could have sworn the air got colder when he said that. Although there was no breeze, a chill went down his spine. He didn't think much of it, but he definitely noticed a shift in the temperature.

"Hang on..."

He'd been sitting here looking at the grave all morning and yet only now he noticed something. Atop the headstone was am object, something shiny. Something that wasn't there before...

A coin. Not a Japanese one, or an British one from when L grew up. But an old looking one made from a light metal with a carving on it Aizawa didn't recognise. Almost as if the coin wasn't from this world... No one but him and the taskforce had been here... so who left it there and why? Curious about what the hell this coin was, he decided... he'd take it.

Normally he'd never even touch something left on a grave in case it was an offering or something, but this coin was a different situation.

The carving... it was a line, a curve on top and a dot in the curve. Like an emblem or something. He'd never seen it before, but the object was definitely meant to be a coin from the size and material.

He flipped it over, and in the back seemed to be writing, but it was a language he couldn't read.
