THE MOVIE THEATRE THURSDAY AFTERNOON
"Hey Liza, what're you doing here?"
Bumping into people on the street seemed to be the most obvious way of meeting people in the city and Elizabeth kept meeting familiar faces every time that she left her house. Today she was extra excited because she was meeting Riff at the movie theatre and she knew that these feelings were true on both sides, he didn't blow off their date as a joke. He had been involved in a fight and couldn't arrive at the café after being beaten up by a rival gang, she understood his pride and knew that he didn't want rumours spreading across the city. She was glad that he came to visit her at her window, something that she hoped became more frequent as it was a private space for the two of them to meet.
There was the chance that her parents could interrupt their moments but that made things more exciting, they were able to be together and be safe. She was looking forward to getting to know him even better than she already did, it seemed that he took time to open up and she was exactly the same. Elizabeth had no idea what movie they were going to watch, she hoped that something new and exciting would be showing at noon otherwise they'd ditch the idea completely. She wasn't sure whether Riff would agree to such a basic date, going to the movies, but he seemed enthusiastic to go. Truthfully, Riff would agree to anything just to get the chance to see her again.
She smiled and waved to the girls that smiled in her direction; ignoring the one that glared. "Hey girls, just waiting for my date."
"Aww, I wish Baby John would invite me to a movie." Tessie frowned, jealous of her friend as they stood outside the small movie theatre.
Dot sucked on her lollipop, removing it from her mouth with a pop as she used her other hand to pat the younger girl on the shoulder. "He's just scared you'll say no."
"Mouthpiece took me once."
"What did you see?" Tessie asked excitedly, desperate for some details because she had never experienced this before.
Velma began giggling uncontrollably as she explained why the story was so humorous. "I don't remember, we didn't really watch the movie." The other girls laughed along with her, Elizabeth had to cover her mouth to stop her laugh from coming across too strong until the laughter died down and was met with a rather uncomfortable question.
"You waiting for Riff?" Graziella asked bored, taking a drag of her cigarette as she leaned against the wall of the theatre. Her eyes scanned Elizabeth, judging her outfit and her hairstyle in her head and believing that Riff was just messing with this girl, she didn't think any part of this was serious.
"Yeah, our movie's starting soon." Elizabeth answered, brushing down her soft lilac dress as she felt uncomfortable under the eye of Graziella.
