Every now and then I get bored and check out promotion books. Usually its regular users, all commenting about their books hoping to get some growth.

But on occasion, I'll see a comment by a person offering to recommend other platforms or offer publishing deals. They're usually something along the lines of this:

Sorry if the screenshots are crusty/hard to read, Wattpad lowers image quality

These comments are usually all some variation of a copy-paste thing, but these are actually real users who often have stuff on their accounts, they're not bots. So that's also why I blurred their usernames. Sometimes they directly message people first, some of my friends have been approached about deals too.

Anyway, I'm a Curious George of a bitch and I like to message these people pretending to be interested and go along with it, just to get details about what they're offering. So I decided to message this person saying "hey, I saw your comment and I'm interested in learning more about these other writing platforms." This isn't a new interaction that I just had, its a bit old now but I'm showing it as an example of how these people work.

No, these are not good publishing deals at all. Especially given how funky the sites are; those numbers are possible maybe but you wouldn't actually get them. Readict says $10k but a company representative actually said it ranges from $300 up to $10k, you're more likely to get the 300 bucks and a $100 bonus instead. But, to someone who just writes on wattpad and doesn't know anything about writing contracts, seeing an opportunity to make money on your little story is a very appealing deal.

I decided to google Fictum just to see for myself and found this article:
