All three of them were out of it. I was the only one who was left standing. The police had already collected Jisung's phone and my father was in for questioning. I was left in this horrible limbo.
Wondering if any of them would actually survive.
Leeknow had major head trauma. Jisung had internal bleeding, and his kidneys were not functioning correctly. Lix's stab wound was deep, and he had lost a lot of blood. Amongst his other injuries.
"Jin. Go home. Get a shower and some rest. I promise if they wake I'll ring you immediately." Chris rested his hand on my back gently and rubbed it in circles. I shook my head and ran my hands through my unkempt hair. I dug my knuckles into my eyes and tried to rub the tiredness away.
"If any of them wake up and I'm not here. I'll never forgive myself. I'm not budging." Chris sighed and patted my back before sitting back. I rested my elbows on my knees and pressed my lips to my clasped hands as I bounced my legs. I wasn't even risking falling asleep. They were far too important.
"Hyunjin?" A nurse called down the hall. I sprang to my feet and approached her. A smile spread across her face, and she met me half way.
"What is it?" I asked as I searched her face for answers.
"Jisung is awake. You can probably see him, but try not to get him over excited. He's still delicate." I excused myself as I squeezed around her and entered into the room where the three of them were packed together.
"Ji?" I whispered quietly. My voice cut through the cacophony of beeping sounds from the machines and I heard him groan slightly in response. I rushed to his bed and seated myself on the edge of it. I brushed his hair from his face and poured him a glass of water.
"Thanks." He croaked as I held it to his lips and allowed him to drink. I placed the cup down and rested my palm on his face.
"How are you feeling?" I asked quietly. He placed his shaky cold hand to mine and closed his eyes.
"Dumb question bro. I feel like shit." He chuckled slightly and I couldn't help smiling. I removed a stray tear from my face and stroked his cheek softly. I was so grateful he was awake.
"Nice to see you're feeling fine. Your sense of humour hasn't changed. So let's discharge you now shall we?" I joked. He smiled and lifted his hand so he could flip me off.
"Are the others OK? Is Min awake?" He asked. I hadn't even considered how difficult this conversation would be. I cleared my throat and shook my head.
"N-Not yet. Him and Lix are still out of it. They were pretty hurt Jisung. B-But I'm sure they'll be OK." I lied. I had no idea if they would be ok or not. But I had to try and keep him calm.
"What about my phone?!" He suddenly asked in a panic. He tried to sit, but I pushed his shoulders back down and smiled slightly.
"It's ok. The police have it. They're searching it for evidence." I said with a smile. He groaned and squeezed his eyes shut.
"Ah shit. Jin there are so many photos of Min and I-" I put my hand over his mouth. I didn't need him to continue that sentence.
"Be thankful it wasn't me that went through it then. I would have clawed my own eyes out if I saw them." His face was flushing red and I felt guilty, but surely they had seen worse.
"Oh God. I'm never gonna be able to look any of them in the eye. I could just die of embarrassment. Min is gonna fucking kill me." He rubbed his face and glanced sideways at my unconscious brother. He looked ghostly white and almost dead. His chest was barely moving and if you didn't look closely, he appeared to actually be dead.
"Your hair is fading hyung. When I get out of here, I'll dye it again for you." He said quietly, dragging me out of my own solemn thoughts. I smiled down at him and did something I very rarely did with Han. I hugged him. I embraced him as though I hadn't seen him in ten years. The thought of any of them leaving me was unbearable. But at least I knew one of them was safe.
"Yah, Jin hyung. As cute as this is. I can't breathe my guy." He said quietly. I couldn't help chuckling and I released him. He smiled and I brushed his messy hair from his face once more.
"Get some sleep Jisung. You look exhausted. Just know we did it. We finally brought him down. Thanks to you. You're plans never fail us. We're so lucky to have you." He smiled and closed his eyes. I finally felt relaxed enough to go home.
I knew Lix and Min were not going to wake up any time soon. It was Jisung I had been concerned about.
"You need some sleep. Please go take a nap Jin." He murmured as he settled back down.
"OK Jisung. But only because you told me to you little bossy squirrel boy." He lifted his hand to his mouth kissed his middle finger and flipped me off as I began walking away. I couldn't help laughing as I exited.
The second the door closed I fell to my knees and held my face in my hands as heavy tears escaped my eyes. I was so overjoyed.
This was a good sign. They would all get better. I could feel it in my bones. I sobbed into my hands silently as noise refused to exit my body. I could feel my tears dripping from my hands and the splattered on the floor noisily.
"Jin!" Chris' arms enveloped me and I couldn't even bring myself to move. I just wanted to stay in this moment forever. This was the most hopeful I had felt in over a year.
My brain was daring to dream of a world where my father was finally behind bars. Where the four of us could live without fear.
Where everything was OK and we were happy. My heart was yearning for that to be the case.
"S-Sorry hyung. He's OK. He's awake and talking and, he's OK." I sniffed and began wiping my hands on my trousers. Chan wiped my cheeks and I began laughing quietly. I felt so dumb for getting so emotional.
"Don't apologise. Things are finally going your way. You can cry as much as you want. It'd be weird if you didn't cry. Now." He stood and waved someone over. I turned my head and groaned as I stood up.
"No. I wanna stay!" I protested. Changbin and Seungmin walked up and greeted us. "I'm not going anywhere."
"Ah, I see why you asked me to come hyung. Don't worry. I got this." Changbin wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me off the floor. I protested and Seungmin slapped the back of my head.
"Shut up Jin. You need to shower and sleep. You look like a homeless person." I lifted my head and glared at him slightly.
"Hey! Seungmin! You're lying! What is your problem?" He shook his head and rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry Chan. We'll get him down for a nap. Jeongin is on his way and we'll bring him back later OK?" Chris smiled and waved as I was carried away from them.
"Binniiiiie!" I whined loudly. He smacked my butt playfully.
"Shut it Hyunjin. You don't have a choice. You need to take care of yourself. Lix wouldn't want you being like this." I sighed and accepted my fate.
He was right. I didn't want Lix worrying about me when he finally woke up.
