First things first, this is NOT another chapter. This is just me giving a helping hand when it comes to the community of fanfics.

Fanfiction is your hobby, not your job, not your obligation, and you shouldn't feel guilty over it.

I'm writing this partially because I need to get out my own feelings, and partially because I know there's other people like me who need to hear this.

Writing fanfic is meant to bring you enjoyment; that's why you spend time on it. That's why you keep doing it. You're providing content for free on the internet, you're not beholden to some mandatory deadline even if you've set a schedule for yourself. In the end, this is something you are doing because you want to, and if you don't want to do it, it's okay to not do it. On those days where you're just pooped and can't get any words out, it's okay to not write and give your brain time to refresh.

When your real life has things going on and you can't muster up the time or motivation to sit down and write, it's okay to let yourself focus on other things. If writer's block is getting you down and you just plain don't have inspiration to keep going, you don't have to feel bad, you shouldn't feel bad, because that's normal and happens to all creations. You're not failing.

I just feel a need to say all this because I feel like it's really easy to get caught up in the cycle of "I need to keep going, I can't disappoint anyone, I can't fail" and lose sight of the fact that fan fiction isn't that serious.

I woke up today sick, lethargic, unable to breath through my nose, my throat hurting, and my brain feeling like it was clouded. And one of my first thoughts was, "Shit, I can't write today if I can't think of the words!" I felt so, so terrible for realizing that I would probably have to take a break from writing for the day, and maybe the next couple of days if things didn't get better quickly.

And then I realized that no, that's ridiculous.

You're not a failure for taking a break, no matter the reason, even if you just don't feel like writing or you're upset with a lack of interaction or any other cause that you might think is not "valid enough" to warrant a break.

You shouldn't be forcing yourself to continue out of a sense of obligation if you know that you really, really don't want to.

If you're someone like me who always Googles or searches on writing forums, "Is it okay to write 700 words a day?", or "Is it okay to take a break from writing if you're burned out/sick", then the answer is yes.

It is perfectly okay to take a break as long as your need, or longer if you'd like. It's fine to write 1000 words a day or 5. Don't bully yourself into doing more than you can just for the sake of doing more.

Even if you have readers nagging you to hurry up, do not let them pressure you if you don't want to. Just because someone feels entitled to receive their free online content exactly how they want it exactly when they want it does not mean you need to deliver it that way. You are your own person, you have your own life, and if someone doesn't respect that, they aren't worthy of you or your work.

You're allowed to take a break if needed, to refuel your inspiration as well as for the welfare of your health. Don't let others stop you for doing what you enjoy doing; you're worthy.
