EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER
ALLEY BETWEEN WEST 64th AND 65th STREET
TUESDAY MORNING

A lot can change in just a few months but the city of New York seemed almost untouched. The only difference to the untrained eye was that construction work had finally started on the abandoned buildings and it wouldn't be long before most of that area would be pulled down. The Jets were still running the streets, they had gotten rid of the Egyptians after the rumble with a near death experience but there was still trouble in their turf. Instead of fighting against Egyptians, who had gone into hiding after the rumble, they were feuding with the Sharks; a new group in town who had moved from Puerto Rico and believed to own the new streets that they had only just arrived at. This didn't go down well with the Jets and a new rivalry started.

Velma was busy brushing down her dress and checking her hair in the window of the Boutique, the Jets were surrounding the outside of the store, waiting for something to happen but it had been a rather quiet day. The Sharks were busy working, meaning that they weren't on the streets and Riff hadn't met them at the Chop Shop that morning. It wasn't unusual for their leader to be busy as he was usually late to meet them when he had company and they weren't ready to question his leadership skills; not after they knew what had happened.

"What're you all jumpy about?" Action questioned, puffing his cigarette as they watched the girl touch up her lipstick for the tenth time in a row.

"Nothing."

Mouthpiece moved over to her and snatched the lipstick from her hand, holding the tube above his head so that she couldn't reach it. "Nothing? What's really going on?"

"Liza's coming back today."

The Jets stopped what they were doing, their conversations ended and their cigarettes almost fell from their mouths. Out of all the things that she could have said, this wasn't what they were expecting and the atmosphere changed drastically. Despite not knowing exactly what had happened on that awful night, they had been there when the rumble happened and they had watched Tony almost killing one of them. They didn't know what he had done but judging by the anger on Riff's face, it couldn't have been good. None of them had had the confidence to ask him what had happened, they just accepted that they would never know but they all been curious, especially when Elizabeth disappeared. She didn't tell anyone that she was leaving, she just never left her house and they had to accept that she was gone. It was Velma that found out from Elizabeth's mother that she had been moved out of the city but they didn't know if she would ever come back.

"Does Riff know?" Ice asked, his eyebrows furrowed worriedly.

"Of course not, they weren't speaking."
