Lyra;

"No Lyra, you have to put the blue string under the green one." Shawn huffed. He repeated that same instruction a dozen times because I can't seem to do it right.

I decided to take a break from studying today and help in the homeless shelter again, hoping to see Shawn and Xavier. Shawn was making friendship bracelets with a few of his pals, so I joined. Shawn himself was my instructor, and he was a very lively teacher.

"What if I add another string?" I asked him.

"No. How many times do I have to tell you that? The. Colors. Wont. Match!" He clapped his hand after each word, the bracelet he's making swinging around as he does so.

I huffed. "Fine, but I'm adding a charm to both of them." I picked up a charm in the shape a music note and another in the shape of a paint brush to add to my friendship bracelets. Of course, they were for Apollo and I.

"Lyra, honey, your friend is here to pick you up." Mrs. Jeramiah walked up to the table Shawn, his friends, and I sat on.

I checked my phone for the time only to realize that it's 5:30. I promised Apollo and Faith to go out with them today. I finished up my bracelets and bid my petite friends sitting on the table goodbye and walked out with Mrs. Jeramiah.

We walked in a comfortable silence but right before I reached the door, Mrs. Jeramiah held both her hands out for me to take.

"Lyra, I have some good news," a grin hovered around her face, like she was attempting to contain her joy.

"Yeah?" I smiled softly, my curiosity shining through.

"Have you noticed that Xavier isn't here? How he's always missing in the mornings?" I nodded.

"He found a job, many of the parents here did." Both my eyes and smile widened in joy. I pulled her into a tight embrace, and I laughed in ecstasy.

"I'm so happy for them!" I smiled at her as I pulled away.

"So am I." she displayed relaxed features.

A car honk sounded from outside the building. "That's probably your friends. Go, have fun!" She gave me a pat on the head and waved goodbye as I ran towards my friend's car eager to tell them all the good news.

"No, you're supposed to tie it properly, not like that." I grabbed the bracelet from Apollo's hands and tied it properly against his wrist.

"What inspired...these color choices?" He pointed towards the pink, green, and yellow strings that made up his bracelet.

"I was inspired by your socks the other day." Apollo wore a pair of Peppa pig themed socks that I couldn't help but steal. For inspiration.

Not for the mere joy of wearing them around without him knowing and hiding my laughter whenever he gets frustrated when he can't find them anywhere.

"Speaking of those, have you searched your room? I don't know if I forgot them there or not."

I shook my head. "No, I cleaned my room, and I didn't find them in there."

"So, they aren't there?" He asked, getting suspicious.

"Nope, they aren't in my room." I showed his the most 'innocent' smile I can muster. It was a white lie. I didn't technically lie because the socks aren't in my room, so he won't find them there.

They're on my feet and he won't think to search there.

"Okay then, I trust you." A smile formed on his face, causing a frown to form on mine.

Did he have to play the 'trust' card?

I groaned in frustration. "Okay fine! You forgot it at my dorm, and I became obsessed with it. I'm wearing it right now, so I wasn't lying when I said it's not in my room."

Apollo maintained a serious face, assessing what I've said, then erupted into fits of laughter. "I already knew that. They were peaking from your shoes when you got int the car. You can keep them; I have a new Kermit the frog pair of socks." He flicked my forehead.

"I gave you my spider man shirt." I raised my eyebrow, silently offering him a trading deal.

"I'll see, I have to negotiate it with my partners in the industry-"

"We're here!" Faith yelled once she parked the car. The drive wasn't long anyway, and we spent it solving the missing socks crime.

All three of us unbuckled our seatbelts and got out of faith's car. "I did lie about one thing." I told Apollo as we walked towards the mall's entrance.

"And that is?" He put his arms around Faith and I's shoulders.

"That I cleaned my room. It's still a heap of junk."

Apollo and Faith made it their duty to sit down and eat while I, on the other hand, pestered them to get up and go to the arcade in the mall with me. Apollo responded to my requests by saying they were too busy 'tasting the divineness of this three-layered cuisine' and waiting for our job offers.

I was waiting on a flower shop beside our campus to confirm or deny my work offer, and Apollo waiting for a radio station's call. We have been searching for part time jobs to fill our time since we finished our finals, hoping to start working in spring break.

However, they were eating a big mac. Most times I wouldn't disagree at all that it's the most divine cuisine of all, but at other times we ate McDonalds together, we weren't sitting in a mall with an arcade beside us. So, I decided to play the most games I could before they finished that big mac of theirs.

"This is rigged." I groaned when the claw machine carrying my teddy bear dropped it. I'm completely convinced the game is cursed.

"Ma'am, I'm going to ask you to leave the arcade." I turned around to see a guy in his mid-twenties wearing a work.

"Why?" My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"You have been yelling at the claw machine for thirty minutes." Looked around me, I realized the looks others were giving me. Like I had two heads.

To save me from dealing with the consequences of my actions, my phone rang. I took it out of my pocket and answered the call as I left the arcade. "Hello?"

"Lyra?" the voice on the other end spoke, a voice I haven't heard much since I came to college. For a reason.

"Mom?" My eyes widened.

Hello!

I'm alive, of course I am. I realized it's been a habit of mine, to stop writing for a while then suddenly appear out of nowhere depending on my mood. Here's a life update: I finished my finals, started a reading journal, planned Carlos Sainz and I's wedding, almost finished a jar of peanut butter, finished the Six of crows duology and started reading Punk 57.

But so far, I've been hoping to finish this story in a few weeks because, unlike my other stories on here, I took more than a month to write this. Which, to my standards, is too long for a 30-ish chapter Wattpad story.

11 chapters to go!
