I put it on like a piece of jewelry
so no one sees what lurks behind me.
It's something I can't leave without
or else they'll figure it out.
It's easier to lie
than to explain why.
Too many things going on in my mind
all I want to do is die.
I smile and laugh
and hope that it lasts,
but at the end of the day
I'm not okay.
They see a fake face,
something I can't erase.
It takes a lot of energy
but it keeps people from worrying.
