"Huh? So there's no rules against it?"

Hades gave you a raised eyebrow, the empty voids that were his eyes staring into your soul.

"Technically yes, but there are loopholes. The taskforce are making this much too hard for us, they're taking way to long to decide if they're on our side or not so clearly you'll have to intervene again" he explained.

You and L sat opposite the god of the dead's desk and eagerly awaited for the answers to your woes in the case.

"Humans aren't meant to know about afterlife, gods and shades when they're alive. But that doesn't stop them from believing in whatever they wish to believe in. All I'm saying is, if you 'accidentally' knock a few books over and the taskforce choose to believe it's the ghost of L, well then technically you didn't tell them. They decided it" hades explained.

That did make sense as a loophole. You and L weren't directly communicating with them, or telling them of the underworld. You're just... making your presence known. And they can choose weather they believe it's the wind or the ghost of L back to haunt them.

"So technically if we're careful about it there's no rules against kind of... pushing them around a bit" you asked.

"Basically. You've already planted clues for them so it's basically the same thing just more obvious to them"

You and L glanced at each other, already coming up with a few ideas. You'd already considered planting evidence, and this was similar and would work better.

"We could maybe, leave some messages in obvious places? We're not directly saying it us from beyond the grave we're just 'leaving stuff behind by accident' right?" L questioned.

"That's true. We could straight up write a note to them and as long as we don't say it's us, or from the underworld then technically we haven't broken any rules. They're just, based on circumstances, choosing to believe it's us" you added.

"Exactly. I'm willing to let you two make this leap through the loophole. My only concern is that Olympus will find out, and then I'll really have a mess to clean up" hades replied.

The Olympians weren't one for following rules back in the day. But as time went on and it became clear that mortals are better off not knowing of the afterlife and gods, they've been rather strict about remaining remembered and worshiped but un-spotted. If they knew a bunch of shades were getting help from the underworld gods to mess with humans against rules they'd freak out.

The only two Olympians that knew were Hermes and Dionysus, the youngest ones that weren't even there when the whole drama happened and are MUCH more chill than the others. Both have kept the situation silent, and are much more on your side despite being Olympians. If the older Olympians found out though? Fuck. That'd be a mess.

Not only would hades have to deal with it, the whole underworld would hear of it, you and L would be dead meat (again) and poor Hypnos would be trembling in fear under his mothers cloak just hearing Zeus' voice nearby.

It'd be a mess for sure. But if you could pull it off, and they never found out... then Kira would be as good as dealt with. You'd already taken a few risks in this case before, but you can't get too cocky.

"Think about it, and if you can come up with the safest way to execute it go for it. But if it's just too dangerous we'll come up with something else" hades said.

"Alright, we'll think it over. Man if Hypnos ended up near the Olympians again..." You sighed.

"He'd be crying like a baby in fear" L added.

Leaving the meeting you had a lot to think about. You'd taken great risks in this whole mission before and been lucky with the outcome, but how lucky was too lucky? Something was bound to go wrong at some point.

It's like the phrase 'don't count your chickens before they hatch'. If you have 5 eggs and expect 5 chickens, you'll be not only disappointed but you'd have wasted energy and supplies preferring for 5 when only 4 hatch because one wasn't fertile.

If you get too cocky and take the risk and it goes wrong, you'll not only be disappointed, but have wasted time and energy on the case as well as put people in danger.

"So we take the risk?" L pondered.

"I feel like we can as long as we take the safest way out, but we should probably figure that out before we rush up to the surface and start banging pots and pans" you replied.

"You're right, if we take the safest risk and it works then case closed. If we take the wrong option though, all hell will break loose"

What do to... what to do... surely there's a safe way to use the loophole and not be caught right? The Olympians are constantly watching the mortals, it's a miracle you hadn't been spotted yet, that was probably because Styx pulls you back to the underworld before they can spot you. But if a group of mortals start saying 'the ghost of L came back to us and is from the underworld' and the Olympians see that, it's all over for you.

"I'm just worried about Hypnos. If things go wrong then yes it's bad for hades and the underworld but he IS a whole god with Nyx's primordial powers on his side. It'd be a messy spat but he can win. But Hypnos would be having a whole mental breakdown seeing angry Olympians in the underworld with all those horrible memories coming back to him, and the fear it'd happen again. And if Hypnos is out of action then the mortals won't get any sleep and if the mortals don't get enough sleep they die, then Thanatos is overworked and the underworld is overflowing again! It's a whole domino effect of bad events" L rambled.

"You know if I didn't exist I bet you'd be dating Hypnos with his close you two have gotten" you joked.

L snickered, understanding where you were coming from.

"Honestly I wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibility. I mean, have you seen that god? He's gorgeous. As are you of course, I have you and I'm staying with you for the rest of my afterlife, don't worry. The fates bought us together for a reason, I love you" he replied.

"I know, I'm just teasing. I love you too sweetheart. But you are right I'm worried for him if it goes wrong"

One small misstep can cause a massive mess. But the right step can fix the whole current mess. Was it worth it? Should you do it?

Maybe you should talk to Hypnos, since it'd effect him so much if it went wrong. Either way, you just wanted the taskforce to hurry up and jump to your side with Aizawa so Light can get his ass kicked into prison and eventually, Tartarus.

A/n: since Hypnos is mentioned so much as L's bestie in this fic I figured I draw him and his twin as they're described in the fic.
