Once Vega was finished with her Study of Ancient Runes, she lingered around in the library to browse through books and look longingly toward the Restricted Section while sneaking some candied strawberries into her mouth. Hermione was still busy so Vega decided not to annoy her.
It wasn't until she saw Cedric Diggory and a few of his friends entering the library that Vega decided that enough was enough and that she should return to the sanctuary of Gryffindor common room.
"Hey, I'm going to head back to the common room," Vega said in a low and quick voice to Hermione. "Don't stay out for too late – it is hard to wake you up in the morning,"
"I'll be up in a bit," Hermione replied, and Vega nodded as she turned and left for the library exit.
"Um, I would like to issue these books," Vega said to Madam Pince, setting down a stack of book about Transfiguration onto the table. "For about a week,"
Madam Pince gave her a look but passed her the due sheet to sign her name in before gathering the books into her arms and setting off out of there. Vega walked slowly as she put the books away into her schoolbag one by one, pretending to be busy so no one would think about approaching her.
And by the time she had reached up to the Sixth Floor, the stairs and corridors were silent and empty. Vega was sure that everyone either in their common rooms, aside from a few people.
"Balderdash," Vega said as she approached the portrait of the Fat Lady on the Seventh Floor.
The Fat Lady swung forward to reveal the entrance hole behind her, and the black-haired female carefully climbed into the Gryffindor common room, which was currently crowded and noisy.
Vega had barely walked a few steps into the common room when she found Harry and Ron walked down the boys' dormitory, holding onto their copies of Unfogging the Future and rolls of parchment. And when they saw the girl standing in the room, they both looked like deer caught in headlights.
"Don't tell me you two haven't even started with your homework," Vega said disapprovingly as she followed them to one corner of the common room by the fireplace. "What have you been up to?"
"Fate made us wait for your help," Ron answered as he and Harry sat down on the table. "Come on, Vega, can't you help with Divination? Just a little bit? It's hellish,"
"Sorry, but I'm tired from doing my own homework," Vega replied as she sat down on an open sofa. "How would you learn if you don't do it on your own? I'm going to do some personal reading, shh,"
While Harry and Ron made faces at her words, Vega calmly got comfortable on the sofa by laying back and placing her head on the armrest. She settled the book on her stomach and began to read.
Slowly, the time went back, and before Vega even realised it – an hour had passed by. She had read through about a hundred pages, trying to improve her Transfiguration spells, and she was biting into a chocolate frog when she looked over to see just how Harry and Ron were doing with their work.
Both the boys were a mess – their quills were moving aimlessly around in their hands and their table was littered with bits of parchment bearing sums and symbols. They looked absolutely lost with it.
"I haven't got a clue what this lot's supposed to mean," Harry spoke up suddenly and finally as he stared down at a long list of calculations. Vega snorted.
"You know," Ron said, whose hair was on end because of all the times he had run his fingers through it in frustration. "I think it's back to the old Divination standby,"
"What – make it up?" Harry asked, and Vega narrowed her eyes at them.
"Yeah," Ron said, sweeping the jumble of scrawled notes off the table, dipping his pen into some ink, and starting to write. "Don't look at us like that Vega – you still have the chance to help us,"
