Welcome to school

I always found school intimidating.
If it wasn't for the fact my arms were as slim as twigs, or I hadn't quite reached my full potential when it came to my height.
It was definitely the fact I was different, I always was. It hurt to stare at one specific thing for more than a few minutes, I couldn't help but mumble and I acted purely on impulse instead of thinking ahead. My parents said that was a good thing, it meant I had 'character' whatever that means.

I stared down the head teachers office as if fighting the door for entry, but as a slow headache began to creep in the back of my mind the door swung open and in its place a looming man who towered over me a great deal
"Ah You must be Noah... come in take a seat" his gruff voice spoke

I followed his orders although it felt as if I didn't have a choice, i crouched down onto the chair and watched the man walk to his side of the desk and take his seat
"I know coming to a new school is intimidating, especially one in a city you've never been in before, it's going to be hard and I know that. To help you I've got one of our best and brightest" he smiled at me then shouted towards a different door leading out of his office "LAYLA YOU MAY ENTER" His voice sent a ringing in my ear that was hard to get out, I only knew that I definitely didn't want to get in his hide side whilst I was in attendance at this school.

When the side door opened, a girl around my age walked in, at first I only saw her brown cargo boots that overlaid her thick socks and thin tights leading up to her black skirt. I quickly shot my eyes up but that wasn't much better.
She was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen, her skin as pure as snow and her deep brown hair flowing perfectly down just past her shoulders.

"Good morning sir" she spoke and i practically swooned at the sheer beauty of her voice, this girl was divine in every way.

"Thank you Layla. This is Noah, you'll be showing him around for the week, he'll be in your classes and I trust you'll take as good care of him as you have the other newbies" the head teacher gleamed.

"Of course sir... come on Noah, we've got hiss" she smiled and held out her arm for me to hook onto, I was more or less dragged out of my chair but I didn't feel it. I was too busy focusing on the warmth of her body, the heat radiated off of her blue knitted cardigan which felt so soft in my hand

"Uhh...hiss?" I muttered out as a question but a lump got caught in my throat abs I suddenly became aggressively thirsty

"Oh! Ha, sorry it's history- everyone pretty much halves the names of classes, it's just kind of a student thing" Layla smiled
That smiled seemed so perfect, like she'd practiced it a thousand times to make sure she got it right. But she did it so effortlessly.

"This is it" she beamed "we've gotta be quiet though, Ms Shore hates noise, I'm also pretty sure when she was young history wasn't even a class" she giggled

I stayed silent just listening to her laugh but she seemed to notice so I freezes up

"You know cause she's old... sorry bad joke" she scratched the back of her neck
I was about to apologise but she slowly dragged me into the lesson

"And who might this be Miss Amare" an old lady screeched

Layla's shoulders tensed as she turned around slowly, a smile plastered on her face but not like the one before. This one was forced, and painful.

"This is the new kid" she began "Noa-" she was cut off by the teacher "I'm sure this 'new kid' can speak for himself... come tell the class about you" she smirked.
"You can sit down dear" the teacher added, Layla huffed and listened to her taking a seat at the back of the class, she put her bag on the seat next to her closest to the wall, I was hoping that was for me.

However for now I had to conquer one of my fears, public speaking. I slowly ambled to the front of the class, a slight stench blocking my nose as I got closer to the teacher. She smelt like death I though.

"Go on then boy. Tell me about who you are" the teacher sighed as if she didn't even want me there despite making me come up

"M-my name is Noah. Noah Deus. I recently moved here from a small town up north, I've been homeschooled all my life...I- I like nature, and I've always loved birds and bird watching other than that I'm pretty average I guess" I managed to get out, it couldn't have been any more than a loud whisper, the teacher seemed to think it was sufficient

As I started walking back to where I left Layla I saw her wafting her hand in the air and pointing to the seat with the bag on like I hoped she would, as I headed to the seat I felt something small hit my head. As I strayed from my path and knocked into another student a quickly mumbled an apology before hearing someone shout "Hey bird for brains! I thought you were supposed to watch them" then a loud roar of laughter
My body seized up and I felt a lump in my throat, this was exactly what I was afraid of most, bullies.

My fist bawled up and I could feel myself begin to shake. Luckily Layla came to my rescue "HEY LEAVE HIM ALONE! Don't you have some steroids to inhale or something" she slammed her hand on the desk and stood up, staring the group of lads down.

"Settle down everyone, Layla go to the office stop stirring up trouble" Ms Shore groaned

"But-" Layla tried to protest but Ms Shore simply shouted "NOW"
Layla let out a groan herself and stood up to leave, she brushed last me and whispered "I'll be back in about five, don't let them get to you"

I waddled over to the edge of the back desk, staring out of the window trying my best to not notice the words that were flying around and occasional 'paper ball' flung in my general direction.
The teacher soon started passing around flyers to do with an ancient museum exhibit underneath it was a bunch of letters
"MISS THIS IS GIBBERISH" one of the group shouted
"It's not gibberish. It's Latin"

"Well we can speak that, we speak English" he laughed but got a disapproving head shake in return

I looked back at the pamphlet and stared at it, it was better than listening to the group and the teacher constantly bickering. But the more I stared I noticed that my head didn't hurt, in fact I felt more drawn in to the words. Suddenly it didn't look like gibberish. I looked like normal words slowly shifting into place, it quickly became English as if it never needed translating
It's the need for survival that separates humanity, it separated the gods, the mortals, the demons. Theirs desire to survive drove them apart, to distrust each other. Wars were all made so others could survive not realising the truth. But you know the truth don't you. Son of the gods.

My head felt in a blur, I shook my head and the letters went back to gibberish.
I turned the pamphlet around and noticed there was more Latin on the back, but I couldn't read it, my head began to hurt but I pushed through the pain.
It quickly became insufferable but the words and letters started to move, to change around once again. A small smile tugged at my lips maybe it was because it meant I wasn't going crazy, or maybe it was because the pain felt almost good

When the letters stopped moving they were still in gibberish but they were shaking as if they were quickly moving back so I grabbed a pen from a nearby desk and wrote it down. The pain still seething from my head.
I felt blood trickle down my nose but I was determined to write this down, it felt right.

A blood splatter touched onto the page of my notebook, before anyone noticed I ripped the page out then tucked it into my pocket.
Then out of no where there was a loud screech that sounded demonic, nothing a human could have made. Then my vision became blurry until it became black and I felt my unconscious taking over.
