Chapter 12 - Crumbling down

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

My alarm woke me up from my deep slumber, I groggily sat up to turn it off and stood from my bed to get ready for another boring day at school. It's been almost two weeks since I started my senior year in high school and the only thing that changed is the more difficult classes and the new freshmen students, which were all annoying as hell.

Once I got into my uniform and made sure I looked somewhat presentable, I walked out of my bedroom and down the stairs where I found my mom laying passed out on the couch with empty alcohol bottles littering the floor. I rolled my eyes at the sight already used to this being the first thing I see in the morning.

I walked past the living room and out the front door not bothering to grab something for breakfast. As I was walking to school, I took out my earbuds and started listening to music. I also grabbed a cigarette to calm my hunger. Since I started dating Dabi I've been smoking a little more frequently than just Fridays' afternoons.

I arrived at school and made my way to my first class still with my earbuds on, not wanting people to talk to me. I didn't have many friends, if not any at all, after that girl gave me Dabi's number we started talking from time to time when we bumped into each other, but we weren't close.

My first class of today was chemistry so I headed to the lab, I took a seat in one of the stools at the far back and scrolled through my phone while I waited for the bell to ring. I noticed a girl with short dark hair sitting next to me but I didn't care to look at who it was, as long as she didn't bother me she could stay there.

The bell rang and the teacher entered the classroom immediately starting her class. I zoned out and looked out the window for the majority of the class until I heard something that caught my attention. "There's gonna be a project due for the end of this month, your partner is gonna be the person next to you. There's no change of partners and I'll be the one delivering the topics. That's all for today, class is dismissed." And after saying that she swiftly left the classroom.

I stayed seated in my stool looking right at my now project partner for the next three weeks, she looked back at me and gave me a friendly smile which I returned. 'Maybe this isn't going to be so bad,' I thought as I just kept staring at her for a few more moments.

"I'm Jiro, hope we can get along for this project." She broke the silence and stretched out her hand in a signal for me to shake it as a form of greeting, the small smile on her lips never leaving her face.

After minutes of hesitation I took her hand in mine and shook it. "I'm Y/n, nice to meet you," I said in a hushed voice. If I was honest, the reason I didn't have any friends was because I didn't do well with people, social anxiety was something I've struggled with ever since I have memory and the fact that Dabi doesn't like me being around other men. But it's fine like that, it's not like I need friends or anything.

"When can we meet up to start working on this project?" She asked me. Her voice was soft and quiet, it brought a weird sense of comfort like I could trust her with anything and her friendly aura made it almost impossible for anyone to not be friends with her.

"I'm free any weekday afternoons, I'm busy on Fridays and weekends." Those days are usually when I hang out with Dabi and 'relax' a little from all the events of school.

And that's how I started to spend most of my free time after school in the library working with Jiro and unconsciously getting to know her better.

Little did I know, that girl would become like a sister to me.

After school ended I went straight to my house, I just wanted to lock myself in my room and sleep for the rest of the day. On my way back I smoked another cigarette because I knew there wasn't going to be a hot dinner waiting for me when I arrived and I would probably need to sneak out late at night to go buy some take out if I felt hungry, the normal routine.
