HAMILTON:
I am not throwing away my shot
I am not throwing away my shot

"But he did throw away his shot -" Jefferson started, but he was cut off by Peggy throwing a cactus at him.

Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy, and hungry

"Alex..." Laurens murmered, shooting a concerned look at the boy sitting beside him.

And I'm not throwing away my shot

I'mma get scholarship to King's College
I probably shouldn't brag, but dag, I amaze and astonish

"He really wasn't afraid of bragging..." Madison sighed.

The problem is I got a lot of brains, but no polish
I gotta holler just to be heard
With every word I drop knowledge

Jefferson raised an eyebrow.

I'm a diamond in the rough, a shiny piece of coal
Tryin' to reach my goal, my power of speech: unimpeachable
Only nineteen, but my mind is older
These New York City streets getting colder, I shoulder

"Hang on - was he homeless?" Washington asked, dreading the answer. Mulligan grimaced and replied, "At first he was. But I helped him find a place to stay. The streets weren't pretty."

Ev'ry burden, ev'ry disadvantage
I have learned to manage. I don't have a gun to brandish
I walk these streets famished

Mulligan was the first person to meet Alexander when he arrived in America. The boy had only been seventeen (despite what the song had said) and he was sleeping in alleyways and scavenging in bins.

Mulligan had picked him up, given him a place to stay and food to eat. And while Alex was eternally grateful, he had begged the man to never speak of it with anyone - he couldn't take such a hit on his pride.

The others just looked worried. Alex, their Alex that they loved and hated, had not gotten a good start in life. Smol Alex was oblivious to the growing concerns of the group, he was used to sleeping on an empty stomach - to working with barely any sustinence. It was brutal, but to him, it was life.

The plan is to fan this spark into a flame
But damn, it's getting dark, so let me spell out my name
I am the—

HAMILTON, LAFAYETTE, MULLIGAN, LAURENS:
A-L, E-X, A-N, D
E-R—we are—meant to be

HAMILTON:
A colony that runs independently
Meanwhile, Britain keeps shitting on us endlessly

"We most certainly do not!" King George shouted. "We are an avid and repesctful nation! Why you would assume we would 'shit' on you is beyond my understanding!"

Essentially, they tax us relentlessly

Everyone turned to look at the king, who had suddenly become very interested in his golden rings.

Then King George turns around, runs a spending spree
He ain't never gonna set his descendants free

"Um - I just like money. Nobody can blame me for buying things with it."

So there will be a revolution in this century
ENTER ME!

LAURENS, LAFAYETTE, MULLIGAN:
(He says in parentheses)

HAMILTON:
Don't be shocked when your history book mentions me
I will lay down my life if it sets us free

Eliza looked away from the screen, squeezing her eyes shut at the thought of her husbands tendancy to constantly put his life on the line.

Eventually you'll see my ascendancy

HAMILTON and (LAURENS):
And I am not throwing away my shot (my shot)
I am not throwing away my shot (my shot)
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy, and hungry
[HAMILTON & LAURENS]
And I'm not throwing away my shot
