With that little snake scare and message situation over it was back to watching the taskforce. It was so boring sometimes, you so badly wanted to just scream at them that light was Kira but they couldn't even see you.
Their meeting had broken up and they'd gotten on with work by now, and the room was quiet and nothing seemed to be happening. You and L decided to go loom over the shoulders of Aizawa and Matsuda again to see if they were communicating in secret again. And to your relief, they were.
The two were messaging back and fourth about what L had told them regarding getting the girls to turn on Light. They'd split up the task between them. Matsuda would track down this Takada girl and Aizawa would confront Misa. Although he had to do it carefully so Misa didn't turn around and tell Light that they were onto him.
"You think they'll figure out a plan?" You asked.
"It seems like they're getting somewhere. As long as Aizawa can find a way to make Misa turn against Light then they should be able to work things out" L replied.
"Any news on convincing the other two about Light?"
"From what we've seen I'd say it's a matter of time for Mogi, he'll figure it out soon enough. It's just Lights father that's holding back. Although if it's 3 against 1, there's not much he can do in defence of Light"
It seems they were finally moving the case in the right direction thanks to you and L pushing them that way. You were finally getting closer to wrapping up this absolute shit show.
"Maybe we should hel- AGH! Damnit Styx!" You whined, feeling the pain of death creep up on you again.
"We'll I guess that's it for today, hopefully they'll handle things" L added.
As soon as the hands of Styx grabbed your ankles and pulled you into the ground you were right back in the house of hades just sitting in the river Styx as usual.
"Why does it have to hurt each damn time?" L complained, shaking the blood read water from his hair.
"Better question, why do we have to get soaked each time?" You complained.
Pulling each other out of the river and shaking the drips from your hair, the two of you grabbed the nearest towels to dry off enough to walk the halls without treaking water everywhere.
"Hades has really gotta find a better way for us to get back..." L said.
"I know, getting soaked every time isn't really that practical. Although I guess we're connected to the underworld so Styx would grab us no matter how we get pulled back" you replied.
Your next predicament was the fact two Olympians were probably going to come down here and try and see what all the fuss on the human realm is. You couldn't tell hades yourselves or he'd know you'd contacted an Olympian without permission, but you could at least tell Hypnos who was in on your secret. That way he'd not be scared shitless when Aphrodite and Apollo inevitably come knocking. And maybe he could find a way to pass on the message as well.
So you both dashed your way out of the house of hades and across the bridge over Tartarus to head toward Hypnos' chambers. Having to pass though Asphodel, L inevitably stopped by Watari for some cake as he usually did before continuing through the underworld making conversation as you journeyed.
"Hey, your job before now was to check in the recently deceased?" L said.
"Yeah, why?" You replied.
"So you can see how everyone died? What's the weirdest death you've ever seen? just out of curiosity"
You thought for a moment, scanning over all the deaths you'd seen in your days working for hades.
"Probably the guy that straight up just walked off the edge of the Grand Canyon. Like didn't jump or slip or anything just... wasn't looking where he was going and walked off the edge"
"How do you not see a massive hole in the ground?"
"No idea, he came out of Styx very confused as to what just happened and where he was"
Now that L mentioned it, you'd seen a lot of strange deaths on your days, you could probably write a long list about it.
"Although my favourite is one I heard about, not actually checked in myself. Someone checked in back in ancient times and ran up to the worker shade rambling about how strong Achilles was. Like an Achilles fanboy, the shade looked down at the check in list and saw he was killed... by Achilles" you snickered.
"He was exited to be killed by his idol? How do you even get killed by your idol?" L snickered back.
"War I guess?"
As you talked about strange deaths, and made your way though Elysium you approached the poppy field outside the cave of sleep and couldn't help but yawn in its presence, it always had a lulling effect to it. When you walked into the dimly lit cave you found the sleepy god I'm his natural habit, asleep.
You craved to sleep as peacefully has Hypnos did, he always looked like a cat napping in a sunbeam. So relaxed and tranquil. Although your presence seemed to shake him from his slumber. He seemed to know the second you walked in.
"Good... uh... evening? What time is it?" He said, drowsy and barely even getting up from his pile of blankets.
"Dunno, we won't keep you awake long. We just have a message" L said.
"Fire away"
He stretched his limbs out, the wing on his head fluttering out stretched too.
"So uh... we heard that Apollo and Aphrodite have figured out there's weird deaths happening and they might be coming down to ask hades about it. I have no idea how far they'll get, Cerberus might block them or maybe hades and your mum will but just a heads up" L explained.
That caught the gods attention, he sat up pulling his eye mask up and rubbing his eyes.
"They huh? How'd they find out?" He asked.
"No idea. Although they seem remorseful about the uh... situation. That's just what we heard, we don't know all the details" you replied.
"Hmm... we'll I guess if they're not coming for me and only for answers about what's going on up there it'll be ok. I'll just stay here and hide out I suppose. They still scare me a little, even if they weren't directly involved"
That was understandable, the Olympians can be a bit wild sometimes anyway. The mortals seemed to think the underworld gods were the scary ones but they were way more chill than the Olympians.
"I'm sure it'll be fine, it's only two of them and all they want is to talk to hades. But it is a little worrying that if two of them have figured it out, then the rest might as well" L sighed.
"Yeah... That's true. But I doubt my mother would let anything happen to me. I'll just be a bit panicked if they try to confront me" Hypnos replied.
"You've got us. We're just shades but at least we can like... give you a hug or something" you added.
The sleepy god gave you a smile, grateful for your kindness.
"If I didn't know any better I'd say you two were gods with how generous you are. I should be ok, but thank you for the heads up" he thanked.
"Don't worry about it. And while we're here, do you remember the guy that died because he had a nightmare so scary he went into shock?" You said.
"Oh yeah! That was so weird I had no idea I could even do that with nightmares"
"Dying of nightmare fright is a thing?" L questioned.
You turned to Hypnos, who'd been around thousands of years longer than you and L and had probably seen all kinds of deaths before.
"We were talking about weird ways to die before we got here. Your twin is literally death, you got any stories?" You asked.
"Oh my gods so many, sit down I'll tell you all I remember"
