Y/n's pov

Lucas and Dustin were invited to stay for dinner.

Since there weren't enough chairs, we had to pull out an extra chair for Dustin, who sat at the end of the table, opposite my mom.

Nancy and I seemed to be the only kids who were eating.

"This dinner is so great, mom!" I said, followed by
another bite of mashed potatoes.

"Thank you, honey." She said, with a kind smile.

She looked around and noticed the boys were just
playing with their meatloaf.

"Something wrong with the meatloaf?" She asked.

"Oh, no, I had two bologna sandwiches for lunch,
Dustin said with a goofy smile on his face.

There was a noticeable pause before he speaks again. "I don't know why." I breathed out a light chuckle and took another bite of mashed potatoes.

Lucas chuckled nervously. "Me, too."

"It's delicious, Mommy." Nancy batted her eyelashes
and I rolled my eyes.

I knew that tactic. Hell, every kid knows that tactic, she wanted something and she was trying to butter up our mom. But to see Nancy of all people do that is pretty funny.

"Thank you, sweetie."

I looked to Mike to gauge his reaction to our teenage
sister's odd behavior towards our mom.

I fought back a laugh when his actions closely resembled that of a tired 5-9 man who's trying to forget something stupid someone said.

"So, there's this special assembly thing tonight...
for Will at the school field."

I couldn't believe my own sister was using my best friend's disappearance as a way to suck face with her new asshole boyfriend.

"Barb's driving."

"Why am I just now hearing about this?"

"I thought you knew." She played innocent.

Mike and I looked to each other knowingly and then at Nancy.

"I told you, I don't want you out after dark until
Will is found."

"I know, I know, but it'd be super weird if I'm not
there. Everyone is going."

Our mom sighed and looked to us, then back at Nancy.

"Just be back by 10:00."

Nancy nodded, happy with herself.

"Why don't you take Y/n and the boys, too?" She suggested.

We all panicked and spoke at the same time.

"No!"

"Mmm-mmm."

"No! No!"

"Don't you think you should be there? For Will?"

The four of us all spotted Eleven walking down the
stairs behind our mother.

Mike nearly choked on his milk.

My mom turned to see what provoked us so much
but the mix of Dustin randomly slamming his fists
against the table a few times and Mike coughing was enough to grab her attention.

She looked between the four of us in shock.

Holly got scared and shrank in her high chair.

"Sorry. Spasm." Dustin said sheepishly.
