Y/n's pov

My back was beginning to hurt from hunching over
for so long, but nevertheless, I continued looking.

Lucas needed "ammo" for his wrist rocket, so the
four of us were scouring the schoolyard for
rocks.

"How about this one?" Mike asked, walking up to
Dustin.

Dustin examined the rock Mike handed to him.

"Too big for the sling." He shrugged, tossing the rock
to the grass.

"So, do you think Eleven was born with her powers, like the X-Men, or do you think she acquired them, like... like Green Lantern?" Dustin asked.

"She's not a superhero. She's a weirdo." Lucas said
as he searched for that.

"Why does that matter? The X-Men are weirdos."
Mike added.

Lucas turned to Mike, agitated. "If you love her so
much, why don't you marry her?"

I rolled my eyes, and straightened up, stretching out my back.

"What are you talking about?" Mike sighed.

"Mike, seriously?" I asked.

"What?"

"You look at her all, like... 'Hi, El! El! El! El! I love
you so much!'" Lucas teased, grabbing Mike in for a
hug before getting down on one knee. "Would you
marry me?' I'm telling you, man, you're just as bad
as Me!" He stood back up when he said the last words.

"What?" I asked, completely thrown off.
The boys froze, Lucas especially. Lucas excluded,
the boys all look at me, awkward smiles on their
faces.

Dustin chuckled and gave a still frozen Lucas
a few pats on the arm.

"Good job, man. Real smooth."

"Guys, what is going on?" I asked exasperated,
crossing my arms.

"Shit," Lucas whispered, closing his eyes.

"Lucas..."

Mike wore a triumphant grin on his face and looked
expectantly at Lucas.

"Yeah, Lucas. Tell her."

"Look what we have here!"

"Oh, God. Not now.'

I rolled my eyes and before I could stop myself I spoke.

"What do you want, Troll?"

My eyes widened at my sudden boldness but I remained confident.

I stared down the two boys who have been
bullying us for as long as we've attended this
school.

"You better watch your mouth, bit-'

"Back off." Lucas said, cutting him off.

Troy looked over to Lucas, looking prepared to
throw more insults at him but something changed his mind and he cooled off.

A smug smile tugged at his lips.

"Or what?" Troy spat.

Lucas fell silent, and Troy continued.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. What are you losers
doing back here anyway?"

"Probably looking for their missing friend." Troy's
goon laughed.

"That's not funny. It's serious. He's in danger."
Dustin immediately cut in.

"I hate to break it to you, Toothless, but he's not in
danger. He's dead. That's what my dad says."

Where's that damn rock?

"He said he was probably killed by some other
queer."

All I saw was red.

"Come on. Just ignore them." Mike soothed, not
only to me but to Dustin and Lucas as well.

He was right. I needed to get out of there.

I stormed off, ready to shove him in the shoulder as I passed but suddenly I felt something catch my foot and I fell to the ground.

A sudden wave of searing pain exploded on my chin when I hit the ground.

Dazed and confused, I pushed myself up enough to see a large, rather bloody rock just inches from my face.

I groaned, rolling over on my back, I heard laughing
and frantic footsteps.

"Y/n!" Dustin and Mike ran over to me, Lucas stormed up to Troy.

Dustin and Mike each grabbed an arm and helped me sit up.

I hesitantly brought a hand up to my chin and I
hissed in pain.

I looked at my fingers and they were absolutely covered in blood.

Holy shit.

I groaned and looked to Lucas worried.

He stood firm and tall, right up in Troy's face.

"Leave us. The hell. Alone." He said through
clenched teeth.

I was taken aback. Surprised by Lucas's actions.

Troy and James walked away, repeating Lucas in a mocking voice.

"You okay Y/n?" He reached out his hand.

I gladly took it. However, I got a little lightheaded
as I stood.

"Shit, that's a lot of blood."

I looked down and I saw splots of blood already
sprinkling my shirt.

"Great. This will be easy to explain to mom."

"You still have that first aid kit?"

I closed my eyes, sighing.

"Crap. No. I left it at home." I sighed.

"We better get you to the nurse's office then." Lucas said.

"No, I-I'm fine." I sighed, wincing at the pain.

"Are you sure? You're bleeding, like a lot." Mike
said.

"Yeah, I'm good."

I offered a small smile. "Well, I at least better go get a
tissue or something. I'll be right back." I said.

The boys nodded, and I head off to the girl's bathroom.

My mind wandering back to what Lucas accidentally said to me earlier.
