2016 | STILL AT THE HYDRA BASE — "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, James." Poor little Arielle cried in pain as she threw herself onto the freezing cold stone floor clutching onto Bucky. Just seeing him lying there broke her heart into a thousand small pieces. It's all my fault, she said over and over in her head. And it wouldn't stop.

"It's all my fault... all my fault!" her head was racking with guilt. She loved him like a brother, and she let him get hurt. She let him down...

Of course Hydra didn't give up so easily and continued to study on her, force the poor girl to show off their monstrous powers in front of them. After all, they wanted to see what their little mermaid was capable of.

It was one thing to train with Wanda. As her mentor and friend she gave her breaks and didn't force her to do anything. The witch whispered words of encouragement to her student when she had doubts and didn't believe in herself. And she assured her to always stay by Ariel's side even if she was too scared. But Here? Mistakes weren't allowed and always dealt with punishment.

"I- I didn't want this to happen." She whispered to him, but his eyes were closed. Your my best friend, I love you forever. Just as little did Ariel know if he could even hear her at that moment. Strucker ordered her to kill the little rabbit with a scream. But she just couldn't... she could never.

The monsters in black suits threatened to harm Bucky, to torture him if she disobeyed their orders. While it was an unfair decision, she was actually trying to carry out her orders to protect Bucky. For him she would always try. But still, she was too weak and just couldn't make it happen. The only thing her scream did was make the rabbit bang its head madly against the silver cage until there was finally a big mess of blood.

When she stopped and opened her eyes, she saw the deranged rabbit trembling in that cruel cage. It was a terrifying, horrible sight. It made her sick to her stomach. Just like Ariel, the rabbit was innocent. It didn't deserve any of this... But why did Bucky have to be punished for her mistakes? They should've made me pay for it, not him. Please not him, the voice in her head screamed as she tried to bargain with them. Hydra had already hit Ariel several times, experimented on her and punished her with electric shocks and what else, but what hurt her most was watching her friends being tortured. And they knew.

"That's what happens when you disobey us, sweet Siren." Strucker replied coldly, she was trying to wake Bucky. "What did they do to you?" She cried at his sight, pushing some hair out of his beaten up face. "Try your luck waking him up, you'll save us a lot of work." Monsters, she thought.

"Please wake up..." she begged him, her voice barely a whisper. She held his head in her trembling hands. Her whole throat hurt, she could even taste blood, but at that moment Bucky was more important. She hardly heard anything that Strucker said, it was almost like she wasn't even aware of her surroundings anymore, just waiting to hear even a single breath from Bucky.

"I'm sorry, James. Do you hear me?" He just had to wake up. Because if he didn't wake up, he would be locked up again in this freezing cold cryo cell to regenerate for who knows how long. "Please don't leave me, James. Please come back to me." She firmly believed that they would make it out of here. She would not give up. She wouldn't give up on him. Not after everything they've been through together...

At that moment, Ariel's head was leaning against his chest in desperation as she begged him over and over to wake up. To get her out of here, she needed him. He couldn't leave her. She couldn't leave him. "S-Siren?" Her blue ocean eyes snapped open as soon as she heard his voice, sounding weak and fragile. "Please open your eyes!" She whispered so only he could hear. "They can't lock you away again..."

"That's enough!" Strucker grinned proudly. "Get her away from Barnes!" He ordered Agent Rumlow and Ward to march towards Ariel. But she clung to Bucky as tightly as she could, hoping he would be able to save her. Deep down, she hoped he would regain control. She hoped he would make every single Hydra agent pay.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen...

"They are coming for us!" Ariel screamed as she felt two rough hands under her arms trying to lift her up. "Steve is coming for us!" She screamed while crying, hoping Bucky would remember him and regain full consciousness. "Steve?" Bucky mumbled questioningly while the agents had already dragged her away from him.

"Where should we bring her, Sir?" Agent Rumlow asked as Ariel tried to break free of their tight grip. She struggled and struggled, wanting to scream, but it hurt too much at that moment. Too much emotions, too much suffering, too  much pain. Strucker took a few steps forward and thought for a moment before replying. "Bring this one to my lab."

"WHAT?! NO! NO! NO! PLEASE!" yelled Arielle. With all the strength she had left, she twisted Rumlow's arm backwards, just like Natasha had taught her. She kicked him in the stomach with her leg, and he flew sideways a bit. But before she tried anything on Agent Ward, he wrapped his arms around her from behind and pressed her against him. Ariel tried to free herself with the help of her legs, but she couldn't. "Calm down, Princess!" he breathed into her ear. He seemed amused that she thought she had a chance. But well two people against one is pretty unfair.

"The Avengers made you pathetic and weak!" Strucker said, focusing his steely gaze on Ariel. "You can't follow orders? Then of course we'll help you with that." Finally he grinned one last time before speaking his last sentence. "Take her away!"
