you snapped at her

Haewon's eyes gleamed as soon as she heard the sound of the front door opening, indicating that you had arrived home. She got home way earlier than usual. It is because NMIXX just finished with the group activities that were necessary for promotion. She is on her break right now, and she was looking forward to spending most of her time catching up with you. It has been a tough month for her, especially that the time that she can spend with you during that entire month was very limited. It was actually scarce.

From the couch where she was curled up, trying to keep herself entertained while waiting for you to get home; she can hear you grumbling. With that, she immediately knew that your day didn't go well.

Haewon was right on that.

Indeed, you had a bad day. You were caught up in a heated argument of a group member of yours, and you had to rewrite a portion of the research paper that the member was assigned to write about but she simply put a completely copy-pasted content into it. Due to the lack of time, you were unable to figure that one out until the professor discovered it when your paper underwent the plagiarism checking through a website.

On top of that, you ended up being scolded at work for being "inefficient" as you were pretty much preoccupied.

Prior to these incidents, you already had disappointments and frustrations which were bottled up. At this point, you could be considered as a ticking time bomb.

One wrong approach, and you will definitely snap. That is how near you were to your edge.

As you were getting rid of your jacket and kicking your shoes off your feet, you were already caught up with all the tasks that you needed to accomplish. You didn't even notice Haewon's presence because you quickly made your way to your shared bedroom with her as soon as you hung your jacket to the coat stand and put your shoes to the shoe rack, eager to get things done according to when you had planned them to be completed.

Although Haewon was a bit saddened with the fact that you did not notice her presence, she did not dwell on it. She stayed where she was, thinking that you would eventually come out of the bedroom to grab something to eat and find out about her presence. She bought you your favorite fast food meal, too. After all, it was already a few more minutes until your usual dinner time. However, 30 minutes has already passed yet there was no sign of you getting back out anytime soon.

So, she came up with the decision to make her presence known to you.

Haewon found you sitting on the chair in front of your study table with your earphones on. She thought that you were playing some loud music along, so that you would not doze off.

Your eyes were fixed on the screen of your laptop, while your hands were busily pressing the keys.

For a while, she watched you with what you were doing, finding you cute whenever you would squint your eyes and furrow your eyebrows as you were trying to make sense out of what you were reading.

She took a look at the time through the wall clock then made her mind up to make you take a break.

You were visibly startled as you felt fingertips brush against your hips and a chin resting on your shoulder. Quickly, you took your earphones off and turned your face towards the direction where you can feel the person was.

You found Haewon eyeing you with her bright brown eyes adoringly. She was slightly bending, so that she could hug you from behind while you were still seated on your chair.

"I finally got those beautiful eyes of yours on me..." She paused, giggling. "You haven't spared me a glance ever since you got home."

"I'm sorry. I didn't notice you there..." You spoke softly, heaving a sigh.

"It's okay, my love. I understand. I kind of figured out why. You did have a bad day, didn't you?"

"Yeah, I did. I don't want to talk about it." You spoke a little too harshly. The memories of everything that happened today invaded your mind.

Although Haewon was perplexed by your tone, she hummed in understanding.

"Well, alright then... but at least — take a break from that," She paused, glancing at the screen of your laptop before locking eyes with you again. "and have a meal with me."

You shook your head, averting your gaze back on the screen of your laptop.

"I have no time for breaks. I need to get this done. You could go ahead and eat by yourself if you are hungry."

Haewon frowned at this.

"My love, there is nothing wrong with taking a break, especially if it is necessary for your health. It is not good for you to skip meals. You need to eat."

You rolled your eyes, starting to get annoyed with Haewon nagging you. You were aware that it was unhealthy — she was getting on your nerves for treating you like someone who is unknowledgeable like your supervisor earlier today.

"Do you know what I need, Haewon?" You huffed, getting her off guard. Her widened eyes and parted lips gave that fact away.

"I need you to stop bothering me and treating me like someone who is dim-witted! I am aware that it is not healthy for me to skip meals, but I really don't have an appetite. I might just end up throwing up. So, it is best for me not to eat instead. On top of that, it is the least thing in my mind. What is it that you cannot understand with the sentence that 'I need to get this done', huh? I know that you aren't dumb, but to remind you... that meant that this is significant! It means a lot to me. So, can you please leave me alone?!" You snapped.

On the other hand, tears were forming in Haewon's eyes. She looked down, nodding tensely as she moved away from you — even though she knew that you did not mean any of the words that you have just said to her, it doesn't change the fact that they hurt.

"Is that what you really want? For me to leave you alone? Fine, I will do that." She spoke quietly. It was barely audible.

Then, the sound of keys rattling came as she was unhooking her car keys from a belt hoop of her jeans, walking towards the door. She was holding onto the knob.

"I apologize for getting you offended with all my worrying which could not be helped, because I am your girlfriend, Y/N."

You rolled your eyes again, putting your earphones back on. But then, you still caught on the sound of the door slamming as Haewon left you in your shared bedroom.

That is when everything begins to sink in...
