"That's right, you're the killer. I know that you did it... Sergeant Sugimoto."
"HUH?!"
Atsushi, Minoura, and Sugimoto stood confused at Ranpo's accusation whilst Dazai and you stood there knowingly and cautiously, prepared to take action if necessary. There was no way he was wrong. His deductions were always accurate, meaning that a murderer was indeed in your presence, standing right next to you. "He did it?"
Suddenly, Minoura let out a large burst of laughter. "Sergeant Sugimoto works for me on the force," he laughed.
"Sergeant Sugimoto was the one who killed her," Ranpo calmly responded.
Minoura seemed to get angry again at that. He yelled, "ridiculous! What stupid killer would want to come to the scene of the crime?"
"That's precisely why he's here," Ranpo explained, "he wants to stay close to the investigation. And in case I didn't mention, I know where we can find the evidence to prove it." He then turned to Sugimoto and demanded, "let me see your gun."
Sugimoto shouted, "you've got to be kidding me! I can't just hand over my firearm to a civilian. They would take my badge away!"
"How convenient for you, Ranpo," Minoura stated, "your source of evidence is the one thing you can't look at."
"But look at it this way," Ranpo reasoned, "if we examine that gun and come up empty then you prove you're right and I'm an idiot with a big mouth."
Minoura growled, "hmph. I've had enough listening to your annoying voice. Sugimoto, show him your gun!"
"B-but sir-"
"This so-called detective has barked up this tree as far as he can go," Minoura snarled, "if we prove him wrong he'll shut up and go home. Go on, you can show him your gun."
Hesitation.
"Hey, what's the matter, Sugimoto?"
"Even here in a city filled with criminals, it isn't easy to acquire government-issued ammunition. Or for that matter a government-issued weapon," Ranpo explained.
Analyzation.
Minoura, slowly getting more and more worried, shouted, "why aren't you saying anything, Sugimoto?"
"He's quiet but I think his mind is racing," Ranpo commented, "specifically he's thinking about the three bullets he's used and how he'll explain their absence."
Consideration.
"SUGIMOTO!" Minoura roared, now on the verge of running over to the policeman to get his gun out himself. "YOU CAN'T BE THE KILLER! SHOW US YOUR GUN AND GET THIS OVER WITH!"
