Namjoon

This whole day had just seemed odd. At first, he hadn't thought anything of the soul bond abilities. They seemed so minor compared to meeting and almost losing his soulmate within a few hours. But after the odd encounter with the government agents and Astra passing out after their standard testing procedure, it didn't seem so minor at all. Because one thing was off.

Astra had downplayed what she could do dramatically. What they both could do, really. Namjoon could feel the energy buzzing over his skin. Even with the repressor over his wrist, the faint whisper of voices still echoed in his mind. Telepathy itself was a rare ability to manifest. But being paired with telekinesis itself made the two of them much closer to the fictional superheroes written about in comic books far before soulmates existed.

The two government agents had seemed satisfied with their test and deemed that he didn't need to get tested either since 99% of the time, soulmates had identical abilities or manifestations of their bonds. They waited until Astra had come back to her senses and was sitting comfortably before they left without another thought.

He could tell Astra's entire posture relaxed the moment they were out of the room. It only took a moment before manager Sejin left to go check on news of Astra's parents.

"Thank goodness that is over." Astra spoke, relaxing into his open arms.

"I don't understand," Namjoon said. His mind was still spinning circles over what had happened. Something was wrong, and it was almost as if he could sense some kind of panic down the bond between them. "What happened? Why didn't you tell them about the telepa-"

His words got choked off as she spun around and placed a hand over his mouth. As much as the situation was serious, he still felt a delicious jolt of energy travel across his skin. It reminded him of what it felt like to kiss her, and how good it would feel to just do the same thing again.

They both seemed to realize the reality of their situations a moment later, and she dropped her hands. She glanced momentarily to the camera in the corner of the room before back at him. He could somewhat understand the anxiety in her eyes. She was hiding the fact that we were telepaths, but more importantly, she didn't want anyone to know about it.

Still, before she dropped her hand, he noticed the darker scorch mark on the edge of her repressor. He reached for it again, a questioning glance in his eyes. He tried to convey the message, tell me what is going on.

She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. After a moment she got up. "Come with me."

Even though he was slightly puzzled. Namjoon let her pull him up and over to the bathroom. She turned on the sink, letting the sound of rushing water fill the room.

A pit seemed to fall in his stomach as he leaned forward. It was like her emotions were coming down the bond at him, which were even more pronounced with him still holding onto her hand. Fear? Terror? Anxiety? She was feeling them all, and Namjoon knew without a fact that something had happened.

Astra leaned forward, her words coming out in a whisper. "We're in danger." She said the words quickly, looking into his eyes to try to gauge a reaction, but Namjoon had already presumed as much. He was sure that his worry was written all over his face.

"What do you mean? What happened?"

She looked around, her anxiety bubbling through the bond. "I think we may have just dodged a bullet, but those two agents were planning on staging an accident to-" she paused, as if she was only just realizing the full reality of what she was saying. "To... kill us."

It seemed a little surreal as the words came to him. This certainly wasn't the first time that he had dealt with threats on his life. As a kpop idol, it wasn't necessarily uncommon for threats such as bombs or guns to surface. His large security team was responsible for dealing with things like that. But this? This was the government they were talking about. And not just the government, but the global organization of worldwide leaders tasked with registering soulmates and ensuring that everyone is kept safe.
