Lithianburg Red Cross Hospital

On this day, a pair of commoners was visiting the Lithianburg Red Cross Hospital. The patient was a lady named Leuctra Netter, 29 years old. She was brought to the hospital by her husband, Merken Netter, and was suffering from certain symptoms.

"You are having trouble swallowing...?"

Genki Toinai, who was in charge of the outpatient clinic that day, asked Leuctra's complaint back.

"...Yes. I have been feeling discomfort in my chest for some time, but somehow food has been getting stuck in the back of my throat..." Leuctra replied.

The symptoms, which at first were only slightly bothersome, gradually progressed to the point where they affected her normal diet, and eventually she could no longer pass food down her throat without trouble. As commoners, they could not afford the high cost of medical treatment, so they could not call in a church physician. Therefore, commoners are reluctant to see a healer on rare occasions. However, when Merken saw his wife losing weight and having trouble eating, he heard a rumor about a clinic on the outskirts of the capital that was built by physicians from a foreign country, where he could receive treatment at a low cost.

"What about vomiting up the food?" Toinai continued to ask questions.

"...Yes. Sometimes I can't fully swallow and end up vomiting."

'Dysphagia...'

Listening to Leuctra's answer, Toinai considered the disease she is suffering from.

"We are not sure yet, but it is probably an esophageal polyp."

""Polyp...?""

Question marks appeared over their heads as they heard the unfamiliar word. Toinai continued his explanation.

"Do you know what esophagus is? It is the passageway for food that connects the mouth to the stomach. Esophageal polyps are wart-like growths that appear on the inner surface of the esophagus. Apparently, it is blocking your wife's esophagus."

Toinai explained while pointing to the location of the esophagus on his own body. A 'polyp' is the general term for raised lesions that occur in the digestive tract from the oral cavity to the large intestine. Usually, they are benign, but whether they are benign or not is determined by pathological diagnosis, which is performed by taking a piece of tissue. The polyps suspected to be present in this case are 'esophageal polyps,' which, as the name implies, occur in the esophagus.

"We will perform an endoscopy to determine the size and nature of the polyp and whether or not her illness is really caused by a polyp. Cold you come back tomorrow?"

Toinai recommended that Leuctra undergo an endoscopy.

"E-endoscopy...?"

The two appeared to be tilting their heads at the unfamiliar words uttered by the foreign healer. Toinai, seeing them, temporarily left the examination room to explain and brought an endoscope from there.

"This is the endoscope."

The healer showed them something that looked a bit like a long, thick cord.

"Doctor... what is that thing?" Merken asked, a bit buzzled by the appearance of an unfamiliar object.
