"Why did you frame your death? Zhongli, or should I say, Morax?"

Zhongli's expression didn't seem to falter, rather, he seemed pleased about it.

"I could announce it in public."

"Would you?"

"Yeah you're right.." You couldn't bring yourself to announce Zhongli's actual identity to the public no matter how much you try to muster up your courage. It just seemed like it would be bad as he helped you enough and entertained you more. This bubbly feeling in your chest was the same when you were around with Barbatos when you first met him. Ofcourse, as bubbly as it was, it still held a little hatred in your heart.

"So why did you do it?" You asked once more.

Zhongli hummed but he now gave an answer, "Liyue is entering a new age of independence, they no longer need the assistance of a deity." You frowned not feeling satisfied with that answer of his.

"But Archons are made to protect their nation so what made you back down like a fraud?" Zhongli closed his eyes and continued walking as if he was thinking how to answer that.

"If the time ever comes that Liyue needs a god, it wouldn't be me." He answered once more. You tried to figure out what he was talking about and once you realized what he meant, you looked down on your path and stared at you and Zhongli's shoes.

"Isn't being a deity fun, though?"

The man looked at you from his peripheral vision and narrowed his eyes.

"Indeed."

"So why step down?"

"To test how the Liyue residents would react." You paused your walk and stared at him wide-eyed.

"For that stupid reason!?" You jogged up to him and giving him an irritated and confused look. Zhongli gave no answer, instead, he gave a small smile which only increased your agitation.

You shook your head and furrowed your eyebrows trying to think up of what topic to come up with next, but Zhongli got it covered for you.

"What did you want to ask?" He questioned.

There were no crowds somewhere so you thought it's safe to say it to him considering he is the God of Contracts.

"Promise me you won't tell anyone."

"Are you promising the God of Contracts?"

He was acting weird. Earlier he was polite and nostalgic around the traveler and Paimon but now that he was actually alone with you, he seemed more laid back as if his mask was worn off or this could probably another mask of his.
