This is an alternate universe where Bucky never became the winter soldier and got to grow old with you after he finished serving in the army.

"Just, come back to me safe. Preferably in one piece," you say and Bucky laughs through his nose as he leans down to kiss you. "I'll do my best, doll," he says as he grips your waist lightly.

"Don't forget to write to me," you say and he nods. "As long as you wrists to me."

You nod as tears start to form in your eyes. Bucky's face drops as he brings his hands up to the sides of your face and wipes your tears away with his thumbs. "Hey, it's gonna be okay, doll," he says as he kisses your forehead.

A choked sob leaves your lips as you try to swallow it. "Please don't cry y/n. It'll make it so much harder for me to leave," he says as he continues to wipe your tears even though more fall each time his thumb wiped them away.

The clear tears falling down your face breaks his heart even more than it already was. Leaving his doll had already made an impact on him and put a crack in his heart. Seeing the broken expression on your face made his heart tear into two. One half will get on the train with him, the other half will stay with you.

But you don't want half of his heart. You want the full thing. And he doesn't want to give you just half of his heart. He wants you to have all of it.

Due to the circumstances, half will just have to do for now.

The train whistles signaling all passengers need to get on. You let out a broken sob and Bucky hugs you tightly, nuzzling his head in the crook of your neck and inhaling deeply, hoping to remember your scent.

"Please come home to me," you whisper. He pulls away and kisses you.

Grabbing the back of your head and pinning your lips to his as tightly as he can. He lets out a small groan in your mouth and you press your body against his, trying to be as close as you can.

Reluctantly, he pulls away from your lips and gives you a quick kiss. "I love you," he says breathlessly. You close your eyes and let more tears fall out. "I love you too," your voice cracks as you say it.

You watch with tearful eyes as he picks your left hand up and kisses the engagement ring on your left finger. "Wait for me doll," he whisper against your hand.

You nod and he kisses you one last time before heading towards the train. He doesn't look back until he's sitting down on the train. His eyes meet yours through the window and you blow him a kiss. He catches it and puts his hand over his heart before blowing you a kiss back.

You repeat his action and catch it before putting your hand over your heart.

With an aching heart, you watch as the train leaves. The love of your life on it, taking him to fight in a war that he could possible die in. You deeply inhale and turn around, leaving the station.

Dear y/n,
I can't believe that it's been a year since I last saw you. Holy cow I miss you so much. I miss you more every single day, doll. I can't wait to see you, touch you, kiss you. I haven't heard any news about going home anytime soon, but don't worry. Soon I'll have you in my arms again. I'll come back to you and we can get married. Have a big wedding, or a small one. Whichever you prefer. I have to warn you that some of the army guys will wanna come. They like it when I tell them stories about us. They like our love story. I leave out the intimate parts. I will never share those experiences with anyone except for you. I can't express how much I miss you. I reread your letters over and over again and fall asleep every night fantasizing you in my arms. I'll make it home to you soon doll. I love you so much.
