Gunshot or just a firework?

No.

Fireworks have similar sound when it's been fired, but... it's not even holiday.

I didn't move any muscle after hearing that sound. I looked up to the sky if there was any smoke left from the fireworks, but there isn't even though it was dark.

I'm uncertain whether it's a gunshot or fireworks, but I can still distinguish the difference in their sound. I'm just distracted by my thoughts again that I'm not paying attention to my surroundings that's why I can't tell.

So what if it's not fireworks?

Citizens aren't allowed to carry firearms unless they're registered and have a permit. But still, they aren't allowed to just use it anytime. Using it without any valid reason is extremely prohibited and is committed with gun violence.

Should I go back and check? Someone might be in danger.

I don't have any weapons for self-defense, but I can manage hand-to-hand combat.

But what if it isn't gunshot?

Maybe that sound is just a coincidence?

I've waited seconds to see whether there'll be another one, but there isn't.

I was startled again when another bang came out. I turn around to where it came from, and another bang came out. My eyes widened as I realized it wasn't just in my brain.

Shit, it's definitely a gunshot. And I think it's coming from the building.

I sprint towards the building while carrying the plastic bag. I took cover behind the parked car as I got closer to the building. It's not just a random building, it's an abandoned warehouse.

Another gunshot has been heard from this position. So, this is where it came from.

Should I call for backups?

But what if the sound is just the same as gunshot but in reality, it isn't.

This 'what if this...' and 'what if that...' isn't helping.

Wait, no. This really is the sound of a gunshot, but still...

I should go check first.

My heart is beating so rapidly, I became a bit hesitant if I should check the commotion. The fact I'm putting myself in danger since whoever's inside is definitely suspicious, or worst, armed.
