Chapter Three

"Come on, Hank! You really shouldn't be late anymore!" You yell outside of Hank's room. "Now that we have Connor, we can actually solve these cases. Plus, Connor can't complete his missions unless we're there!"

"Why should I give a shit about that android or it's missions?" Hank says, muffled by the door.

"Oh, come on, wouldn't you feel guilty if he were shut down all because you didn't want to go to work?" You say back.

"I wouldn't lose sleep over it. It's a machine, machines get shut down."

He had a point, Connor was only a machine, supposedly an inanimate object that didn't actually feel or think, though you never thought of androids that way, even before meeting Connor. It just seemed weird that things so close to being human were just objects, so you always treated and thought of them as if they were alive.

"Get your lazy ass up!" You yell, impatiently. "Here's some motivation, the faster we crack the deviant case, the faster Connor gets to go back to CyberLife!"

You hear shuffling within the room after a minute. "Fine, give me 30 minutes."

You look at the clock, it's already 10 am and your shift had started 30 minutes ago. You sigh and go to the kitchen for cereal and wait as Hank gets ready. You preferred to go in one car to cut down on gas emissions and global warming, as that issue was as prevalent as ever. Credit to Hank, surely enough, at 10:30 you were on your way to the station together.

Upon arriving, you and Hank walk to your pair of desks and see Connor already there waiting for the two of you.

"It's good to see you again, Lieutenant. You too, Detective." Connor greets.

"It's good to see you too, Connor." You smile at him. "Though, please just call me Y/N."

"Noted." Connor says as he smiles warmly back.

"Hank, L/N! In my office!" Captain Fowler calls, and the three of you walk to his office.

Upon entering, Hank sits down at his desk and you stand beside him, Connor closing the door behind him and standing next to it.

"I've got ten new cases involving androids on my desk every day. We've always had isolated incidents, old ladies losing their android maids and that kinda crap.. But now; we're getting reports of assaults, and even homicides, like that guy last night." Fowler says, looking at both you and Hank. "This isn't just CyberLife's problem anymore. It's now a criminal investigation and we've gotta deal with it before shit hits the fan. I want you two to investigate these cases and see if there's any link."

"Why me?" Hank asks, frustrated. "Why do I gotta be the one to deal with this shit? I am the least qualified cop in the country to handle this case!" You stand beside him, silent. You were fine with the android cases, but you knew Hank wasn't all too well.

"I know jack shit about androids, Jeffery!" Hank exclaims angrily, "I can barely change the settings on my own phone.."

"Everybody's overloaded." Captain Fowler starts, now frustrated. "I think you're perfectly qualified for this type of investigation."

"Bullshit!" Hank yells, now standing up. You take a step back, rather closer to where Connor was standing. He looks at you for a moment and looks back at the two. "The truth is nobody wants to investigate these fuckin' androids and you left me holding the bag!" Now Hank turned around and was pacing the office.

"CyberLife sent over this android to help with the investigation. It's a state-of-the-art prototype. It'll act as your and L/N's partner." Fowler says as a demand.
