I SPRINTED THROUGH the door as I held tight onto Gale's arm.

Tears were falling down my face as we ran into the forest, gun shots were firing behind us I continued to run in a panic.

We were running for an hour now and I didn't know if we were still in Avonlea as there was no more snow on sight.

I stopped running and walked over to a tree as I sat down beneath it.

"What are we going to do now?" Gale asked as he was running out breath, he sat next to me as I put my head on is shoulder.

"I don't know... but we can't return." I said as I grabbed him hand and interwined our fingers.

"She'll kill us." I said as tear fell down my face and Gale wiped it away.

"I don't want to get married Gale.." I said as I started to sob into his shoulder. "At least not yet.." I said as my voice was shaking.

"And you won't.. we will figure something out" He said as tears of his own started to fall down his cheeks.

"We will find a job far away from here.. and we will pretend to be other people" he explained as he rubbed my back in circles.

"Like in the books.." He sobbed as I looked up at him and wiped his tears away and caressed his cheek.

We eventually fell asleep in that position as we had no where to go.

My eyes fluttered opened as the low degree weather hit me in the face. I started to shiver as I cuddled up to Gale closer.

His eyes opened at the feeling of movement against him, "It's so cold" I shivered as he wrapped an arm around me.

"I am so hungry.." He said as I heard his stomach growl, I was hungry to but I didn't know what to do.

Every we ever needed was handed to us by birth, food, shelter, clothes but now we are alone, and I don't know how to survive.

"We should look for food, then we will worry about shelter." I said as I stood up and pulled Gale along with me.

We started to walk around quietly trying to find some animal or plant we could possibly eat.

I heard a branch snap behind me, I quietly turned around a I spotted a white bunny.

I quietly picked up the big rock that was displayed in front of my feet and started to walk towards the bunny.

"I am so sorry..." I whispered as I threw the boulder at the bunny which quickly smashed it.

Gale turned around in panic as he saw blood splattered on the ground and a boulder in top of a dead bunny.

"What did you do?" He yelled as he stepped forward to have a better look. "Did you have a better idea?" I yelled back as I walked forward and picked up the boulder

I threw the boulder aside as I picked up the dead bunny, just the sight of it made me want to puke.

"Make a fire" I instructed as he walked over and grabbed some tree branches and tried to start a fire.

I grabbed a tree branch from the ground as I stabbed it into the bunny as Gale started the fire.

When Gale finally succeeded on making the fire with just wood I grabbed onto the end of the stick as the bunny was in the other side and started to roast it like a marshmallow.

"I never thought we would end up like this" Gale said as he was eating a bunny leg, we were both eating the meat from the bunny I had killed earlier under a tree.

"Me, neither.." I sighed as I licked my finger and put my head on his shoulder.

That's how we've passed the last 3 days, hunting for food, drinking the dirty water from the river and shivering at night from the cold.

It wasn't great, but it was what he had to do to survive.

I was looking for some mushroom with Gale on my side as we heard a twig snap.

Happy thinking it was a bird or a bunny I turned around but my face dropped.

Ruby.

"Well, well, well.. I finally found you guys" She smiled evily as she was holding a gun in her hand.

"Did you really think you could just run away from me?" She chuckled as she walked closer to us.

"Where is our dad?" Gale said as tears fell down his eyes.

"In the other side of this forest looking for you. In fact everybody is.. but once they find you dead in the forest their little hearts will be broken and all of your inheritance will belong to me!" She yelled as she brought the gun up and I grabbed Gales hand and started to run.

Gunshots were behind us as we started to run, one of the bullets was shot directly in Gale's leg which made him fall to the ground.

"GALE!" I yelled as he fell to the ground in pain, not knowing what to do I put him in my back started to run.

I was running for a minute now as I didn't notice the branch below my feet and tripped.

I fell to the ground with gale as I started to yell in agonizing pain.

"It seems like this is your end." A voice said as they walked closer to us.

"You know, I think it's best if I leave you with a broken leg in the middle of the forest, since you won't survive.." she laughed maniacally as she lowered her gun.

"I am so glad I won't have to do all the dirty work.." She said as she kneeled down next to my face as tears were flowing down my eyes.

"Tootles..." she said as she kicked me and my brother in the head as we passed out.
