Lilly got me up and out of bed trying to get me to do some sort of activity. So now we were sitting by the poolside with my laptop and Lilly on her phone. She said something about how it was unacceptable for me to only have one pair of clothes while I stayed at the hotel. I was writing down different ending ideas for my book while we talked to one another. "I don't know how you live like this?""By the fact that I don't have to care and or worry about public appearances.""What about book signings and that other thing you do.""Doesn't happen as often as you think. I'm not that great of an author.""I think you are.""I know Lilly." I look up at her seeing she was still nose-deep in her phone. My eyes were pulled away by a shadow growing on my leg. Looking to my right I find Johnny standing by me. He gave me a soft hello and I nodded to him back. He pointed at Lilly in a silent question as to what she was doing. "Shopping, thinks I'm too much of a hermit to be comfortable wearing one outfit.""Ah." I move my feet closer to me as Johnny moves to sit on the edge of my lounge chair. With my feet in a comfortable crossed position, I resume my typing. Despite the soft, fast clacking of the keys I was getting nowhere. None of the endings felt real, nor did they feel right. Pulling off my sunglasses I try to rub the frustration out of my face. It doesn't do much other than pulling the blood closer to my skin. "Alright," Lilly's voice made both me and Johnny look at her. "I have an outfit for you downstairs, and some designer to talk to on the phone. I will be back, but Dad?""Yes?""Please keep y/n company. She'll end up doing nothing without someone around.""I'm right here?!""I can sit with her, don't worry." I dramatically roll my eyes and Johnny gives a faux offended look. I mock him back as Lilly leaves a kiss on my head and a pat on her dad's shoulder. My typing resumes as Johnny stays put ordering himself a drink and a refill on what I already had. Our voices were silent as I typed away and Johnny sipped away on his fruity concoction. ---------------------------------- Five minutes had passed and I had grown tiered of my getting nowhere. I frowned and shut my laptop with a groan. Johnny chuckled from beside me. I grab my drink and take a long sip through the straw. I was warm and unmotivated. "Still writing?""Still reading my work?""Touché." Johnny gave a laugh as I just chuckled. He always joked about how easy writing seemed to be. You didn't know that he was joking at the time, until you found one of your books on his bookshelf. The butterfly's I felt in that moment made me feel overwhelmed. To know that he wasn't being mean but just teasing stirred something in me. Made me feel we were closer than I originally thought. "What are you drinking?""I only read the name, and it's real sweet. Hurricane I think it said." Johnny leans forward and hands me his drink to taste. The orange cocktail looked out of place in his hands. "You're so weird sometimes." He can only laugh as I lean forward and take a sip from his straw. It was sweet, but I liked it. Johnny remained smiling as we both sat back in our chairs. "Do you know what Lilly's plans are?" I couldn't help but sigh. Lilly was always headstrong and confident. She had an idea and she was gonna go with it. "Probably let me stay here for a week and then drag me along to her home.""All the way to France?""Or where ever she is staying.""She's not gonna let you out of her sight is she?" Johnny's laugh told me he was trying to lighten the mood. Unfortunately he was right. Lilly was ecstatic when my physiatrist agreed that I should have someone around me when I experience lows. "Unfortunately, it would be in my best interest.""Well, then we both have something in common." I look to Johnny only to find him looking at the water with his drink in hand. We had always joked together about being damaged and broken. It was like our demented way of bonding. A waiter comes by and refills my water and Johnny's Hurricane. I sip my water and relax knowing that no matter what happens today Lilly would be by my side. Maybe even her father on the side.
