All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts;




We usually tend to perceive of the mask as something that conceals our identity, but we should contemplate the possibility that the mask actually permits our true identity to be revealed, gives voice to that which was previously rejected, enacts the side of you that is seeking expression yet was never given a role to play on the stage of your life.



Yet people see masks as simply that - a persona you put on when you need to slip into an expression.



But at the end of the day, aren't our masks begrimed with our skin?



Aren't they, by extension, very much ours?
