For the rest of the night, Levi did not sleep. He chose to watch over you and the baby who had fallen back to sleep in a crib wrapped in his small and warm blanket. Ms. Florence said the birth was a miracle, the delay in your labor must have played a factor in the safe delivery, but in return you experienced hours of excruciating pain.

“She’s truly a strong woman, your wife,” Ms. Florence said. It was the crack of dawn and she’s getting ready to leave. “I’ll continue to visit for a while, to monitor the baby’s growth and the mother’s health.”

Levi nodded, stopping by the door as Ms. Florence smiled at him.

“Can you…” Levi started but trailed off. When he didn’t say anything for a few seconds, Ms. Florence nodded as if she already knew what he’s going to say.

“Rest assured, I will not tell her about the choice you’ve made yesterday.”

“Thanks,” Levi said, tilting his head in a slight bow.

“Well then, we’ll get going now.”

The two women left afterwards, just as the first rays of sun became visible in the sky. Levi went back inside and up the stairs to check on you. He found you still sleeping soundly and he let you be before he headed to the wooden crib beside the bed.
