ADRIK WAS DRIVING as fast as he could down the road. It was going to be about a forty-minute drive to the hospital, and he really didn't want to spend too much time away from Avelina and Marina.

He made sure to tell the nurses to update him every chance they got. If it weren't for how much Miss Paola meant to Avelina, he wouldn't have left her. He could see it in her eye how hard she tried to stay strong, and it broke him.

As he drove, he thought about the house he bought for their family. It was even bigger than his previous one, but it was closer to the beach in New York. He saw how much Avelina loved the sea at the safe house, and he knew she would appreciate the new home a lot more. It was done getting built about a week ago, and the interior designers were going to finish up today. Adrik made sure to subtly ask Avelina what kind of things she preferred... carpet or tile? Wood or marble?

It was important to him to make it special for her.

When he stopped at a red-light, he pulled out his phone and sent Natasha a quick text. It was annoying to him how she always managed to disappear at the most important times. After waiting a few minutes, he realized she wasn't going to be responding.

The last he heard from Natasha was when she said that she had something important to take care of. Most times, when she talked about taking care of something important, it meant she was planning on going away and not coming back for a while. His shoulders fell as he threw his phone over to the passenger's seat.

The light turned green so he continued down the road until he was outside of the address he was given. It was a large hospital. He knew the hospital well due to their success rate with working on emergency trauma. He sent a lot of his men to the very same hospital and paid a lot of money to them every month to keep everything under wraps.

Adrik parked his car and stepped out of the vehicle. He closed the door shut behind him and made his way into the hospital. After telling the receptionist who he was looking for, she led him deeper into the building. They walked until they were directly in a waiting room.

Adrik had never met Cheyenne before, but he could tell it was her. She looked identical to Miss Paola, only her complexion was a bit lighter and her hair was dark brown. She had tears gathered in her eyes, and he quickly noticed them the moment she made eye contact with him.

"Cheyenne, this gentleman says he knows your mother," the nurse said, walking over to Cheyenne. The nurse held a longing look in her eye as she stared at Cheyenne. After looking at her for a second too long, she cleared her throat and glanced at Adrik.

She nodded her head in response and waved Adrik over to her. He was hesitant to walk up to her. Something just felt off.

"Adrik, Avelina's husband, right?" Cheyenne questioned.

He didn't bother to correct her. Instead, he looked around the waiting room. There was no one else in the room other than the three of them. It was odd. Most times when his men were rushed to the very same hospital, the waiting room was always packed with people.

"You mentioned you had something to give Avelina. What is it?" he asked, cutting to the chase. He wanted to get back to Avelina as soon as possible and beating around the bush just wasn't cutting it.

"Yes," Cheyenne said, wiping away her teary eyes. She went back to her seat where her purse was resting. She fished through it until she pulled out a very large manila folder. Adrik narrowed his eyes at it suspiciously.

Written on the folder in big letters was 'AVELINA'.

"What is in it?" he asked, grabbing it from her. The moment she shrugged her shoulders, Adrik wasted no time in opening.

"Wait—" Cheyenne protested, but it was already too late. Adrik had it open and staring him right in the face was the deed to not only her hotels but her entire estate. He began to read over the document until his eyes widened at the amount of money Avelina was to split with Cheyenne—ten million dollars.

"I was trying to say that the lawyers made it very clear no one else can open it other than her," Cheyenne grumbled. "But now that it's open... what does it say?"

Adrik quickly slid the papers back into the folder. Miss Paola gave Avelina everything.

At his silence, Cheyenne prided a bit more. "Come on, tell me. What did she give her? A couple thousand dollars?"

When Adrik stayed silent, her brows rose but her smile never left her lips. "Okay... maybe not. What? A million?"

"I wish to pay my respects to Miss Paola. May I see her?" Adrik questioned.

"Yeah, after you tell me what that woman gave her," Cheyenne demanded, crossing her arms over her chest. The smile on her face had disappeared, and Adrik was sure he was seeing true colors at last.

Adrik glanced at the nurse to see her head was tucked down. He narrowed his eyes at her name tag that read 'George.' Adrik didn't know too many women named George.

"Cheyenne, you have no idea who you are dealing with," Adrik said. "Show. Me. Her."

Cheyenne chuckled. There was a dark look in her eye. "It's you who has no idea who you're dealing with," she stated.

With that, she snatched the folder out of Adrik's hands and opened it. He immediately grabbed it back from her, but it was already too late. She had already seen it.

"That fucking bitch!" Cheyenne screamed. "We did all that god damn work just to end up with a couple million while that little bitch walks away with everything!"

"What work?" Adrik questioned.

The nurse looked away.

"Taking care of her, of course," Cheyenne spat. "Something I had to put up with forever!"

Adrik took a step closer to Cheyenne so he was towering over her. "Show me her, now. If not, I snap you like a fucking twig."

"You won't," she dared.

"Try me."

It was like a staring contest with the way their hatred blazed through their eyes until one person backed down. After what felt like eternity, she looked away.

"Explain it to him, Pat," Cheyenne said.

Pat. Her name wasn't George.

"Any relatives of the deceased are always directed to view the body at either a morgue or funeral home, so I'm sorry but I can't show you Miss Davis, out of respect for the family," she explained.

Adrik almost wanted to laugh. He grabbed Cheyenne by the collar of her shirt.

"I do not trust you. I will have you know that I will not stop until I figure out what exactly happened to Paola," I threatened.

She snatched herself out of my grip. "I don't fear you Adrik Zolotov. Fuck you!"

Adrik's jaw clenched.

"Instead of worrying about me. How about you go check on your little baby mama?" Cheyenne chuckled. "Camilla's coming for you."
