Silas pov

I was excited for class on the first day of middle school, but while I looked around I saw others making new friends and I wasn't. I struggled to make friends because of my shyness, and when I would stutter.

I had spotted a beautiful girl I could try to be friends with. I smiled walking over to the her. I lightly tapped her shoulder making her turn around and smile back at me. "yes?"

"I'm s-silas do you m-maybe want t-to be my f-friend?" her smile fades as she looks at her other friends around her. She then looks back at me, but this time she laughs and her friends laugh along.

My eyes brimmed with tears making my smile fade away. "do you really think I'd be friends with someone who stutters?"

I lowered my head and drop my shoulders while tears fell from my eyes. "well y-you could at least g-give me a c-chance."

She scoffed rolling her eyes. "yeah no. your chance will never happen." She turns away making jokes about me to her friends while they just laughed.

I walked away sulking and decided it was best if I was just my only friend. I never talked to anyone well because there was no reason to. Nobody wanted to talk to me anyways.

It was the same thing every year until I got to sophomore year of high school. I had met my best friend sophomore year who was a bit like me, but he talked a bit more and didn't stutter.

We would meet each other in a spot somewhere quiet, so we wouldn't have to hear anyone. While walking to our spot Ezra started to rub his hand up and down my back.

"Silas you should really try and make some friends. do you think you can do that?" I shrug my shoulders keeping my gaze down at the floor.

"I know it's hard for the both of us, but I think we should at least give it a try." he stops his sentence so we could sit down and continue when comfortable.

"we may not talk as much as others, but the ones who understand us will give us a chance, and wait for when we're ready."

I look at him as if he's stupid. "what? don't believe me?" I shake my head crossing my arms over my chest. "look I bet when you find that person you'll never want to lose them."

I take a second thinking about it, but I know that it will never happen. "it won't happen." Ezra looks at me worried before scurrying to my side grabbing both sides of my face.

"what?" he stares at me not blinking before speaking once more.

"with that voice it won't. what did you do? eat a frog to make it that deep?" I give him a glare making him put his hands in the air.

"alright, alright I'm sorry, but seriously how is your voice that deep?" I shrug my shoulders focusing on a group of girls that walked by.

Only one person caught my attention. she looked beautiful, but I've learned that the ones who are beautiful don't have a good personality. I wanted to see who she really was before judging anything about her.

"keep your eyes off the girls Silas. we have to go to class."

I nodded my head standing up following behind Ezra to class. I sat down in the back while he talked to another friend of his that was a bit more talkative than both of us.

Class was going to start in a few minutes and Ezra walked to the back sitting in his original seat beside me. "wow he talks a lot." he mutters.

I smile just a bit before going back to a straight face. class had begun and I already felt like falling asleep, and that was until we all heard a knock on the classroom door.

When opening the door it revealed the girl from earlier that had caught my attention. She scurried over to the teacher up front showing a schedule.

They both gave each other a thumbs up smiling while Mrs. Melendez pointed to a seat across the room from me and Ezra. She hurriedly made her way to her seat taking everything she needed out.

I was distracted the whole period. My eyes couldn't seem to move from her direction at all, and Ezra could tell because he couldn't stop annoying me about it all day.

"ooo Silas couldn't keep his eyes off of a certain someone." I nudge him in his side with my elbow making him wince in pain. "ow that hurt.."

"s-shut up about i-it Ezra." he continues to laugh but shuts up about it. "do you think she'll be in any of your other classes?" I shrug. "I hope she isn't." I lied I know damn well I want her in any of my other class periods.

"cheer up dude. just meet new people because you never know she may not be the same as the girl from middle school." I nodded my head taking it into consideration.

"well here's your last class. I'll see you after!" he patted my arm before running to his class. I walked in keeping my gaze down at the floor as I walked to my seat in the back.

I could see somebody in the seat next to me, but didn't bother to look at them. I could feel their gaze lingering on me. I turned my head taking a good look at who the person might be, and just my luck it's the girl from earlier.

she gives me smile, but I ignore it and look away. I take a glance at her seeing her smile fade away and her shoulders drop.

I felt bad, but this was going to be the same as last time. where I was the one who was going to get hurt. I didn't mean to make it seem like I'm not interested in being friends or anything. I just didn't trust her.

We ended up doing a worksheet of some sort, and I struggled with it. everything that was on this paper was not what this teacher taught us at all. The girl beside me could tell I was struggling.

She slightly moved my paper towards her, but still to where I can see what she's doing. She showed me how it was done, and I was impressed with how fast she did it.

I gave her a nod appreciating her help. she lends her hand out smiling again. I look down at her hand then back up at her. "I'm Roselle. I was wondering if you'd like to be friends maybe?"

I stared at her hand contemplating wether I should try to be friends with her or not. Instead of putting my hand in hers I looked away.

I take a glance at her, and this time her smile didn't fade. "Thats okay. I'll try again tomorrow."
