A few nights after we got back from the wedding, I'm riding in to the cave and reporting for Shadow duty. We've been hearing about a new mob trying to move into town lately, and they were behind the recent change up in drugs and the chemical shipment. We were going to watch surveillance tonight on something that happened a last night, so I stood behind Bruce as he pressed play.
On the video, we could see a view of the mob doing some business, and having an altercation of some type between the members. One person stood off to the side though, not wanting to be a part of the arguing. We couldn't see their face in the dark and from where they were standing, but their body language was clear, they didn't want to be there. They were dressed like a boss though, so we knew they had to be someone important.
When several of the arguing mob members were tied up and restrained, clearly about to be executed, the main boss man took a small object, likely a lighter, and shoved it into the loner man's hand who reluctantly took it. The loner guy was shoved towards the soon to killed members then, and after looking or saying something to the boss, turned back to the tied up mob members, who had just had gasoline dumped on their kicking and screaming bodies. The loner man lit up the lighter, which was the object forced into his hand, and tossed it on them, setting them on fire.
"No..." I breathe out in shock and sadness when the fire illuminates the loner man's face.
Once illuminated, we could all see the sorrow and regret on the young man's face after he tossed the lighter. The guilt and the shame was evident on Anatoly's face as he set fire to the mob members. I felt my breath catch in my throat as I feel sadness ache into my heart as I watch the screen.
The main boss came and placed a hand on Anatoly's shoulder, patting him on the back in a congratulatory way before walking off, leaving my boyfriend to stare sadly at the bodies, not turning away from what he had just done.

"Ana... I'm so sorry." Tim says from next to me as I walk forward to the screen to look closer at it.
I deflate slightly, plopping my chin down on Bruce's broad shoulder and sighing loudly, about to cover my feelings with humor since that's my automatic response. "I'm going to miss him." I say honestly. "His sexy Russian accent... Why are the sexy one's always evil?" I lament to Bruce.
"Tell me you're going to miss him for more than just his accent, sis." Dick scolds me.
"He was sweet, don't get me wrong, but the accent..." I pout to him, and Bruce turns to glare at me. "Don't give me that look, you know." He turns away again from me.
"You don't have to hide it, you cared about him Ana." Bruce cuts straight through my bullshit. "I'm sorry he was a part of this. But he's a killer now, and a mob member. You know what we have to do." He finishes stoically.
"Yeah..." I admit quietly, standing back up while staring sadly at the guilt ridden man I am dating on the screen. "I know."
"At least he looks guilty." Tim adds on helpfully, looking at the footage. "He at least has a conscience."
