Kaminari pov~

When I had finally spiked up the nerve to ask Dabi if we could go out, he had looked as surprised as a villain could look, but never the less he had called Keigo and they had both agreed. Unfortunately Dabi would have to accompany me according to the foster care new child rules or whatever the fuck they called baby sitting me.

It was pretty late, almost 9pm so I wasn't too worried about running into anyone from school, however there was still a chance if any of them got permission from a pro that I could see them. Regardless I threw on a dark hoodie and would put the hood up if necessary, and being quite recognizable Dabi changed into a different dark trench coat with the hood up and wore a black face mask,

"Alright kid, lets go." He spoke in his regular monotone voice as he held the door open for me. I hesitated for a few seconds before walking out, nervously fiddling with my hands in the hoodie pocket as Dabi locked the door as Keigo had apparently trusted him with his own key.

Although this wasn't the first time I had been left alone with him, this was certainly the first time where I was truly alone with him, and without anything to do to be alone. If Keigo went out and left me with Dabi, I'd normally study or sit in my room, maybe text in the BakuSquad group chat, and listen to music. The villain didn't bother me much, only coming in or speaking to me very occasionally. I was still incredibly wary around him, and both him and Keigo were most likely aware of that.

Heck I was wary of everyone now a days!

"So where'd you want to go?" Dabi asked, breaking the silence. He turned to look at me as we got off the last step and walked out the complex's doors,

"I urrr... I hadn't thought quite that far!" I gave a wide smile and shrugged my shoulders. I was so good at seeming happy, that I didn't even know if this was genuine or fake. The villain just stared at me for a few seconds before sighing and beginning to walk,

"Lets just go round the block or something." I nodded before realizing that he was quite a few paces ahead of me, so I ran to catch up, looking up at him as he looked straight ahead, his blue eyes and his under-eye scars being the only thing visible with a lock of his dark hair.

Dabi must of seen me staring as he turned his head to look at me, hands in his pockets. I quickly smiled and looked ahead again, clenching my hands as I did so in order to distract myself,

"Your eyes are pretty!" I said quietly, desperate to get out of the uncomfortable silence. He huffed and shook his head slightly,

"They remind me of my father, but if you ignore that then yeah i guess they are." He paused, eyes moving to look at me even though his head was facing forwards, "Your eyes almost have lightning bolts as the pupils." I smiled,

"Yep it comes with the quirk! Black lightning bolts in the eyes and in in the hair, as well as the gold and yellow in the eyes and hair." I looked back up at him, only to see that he still had his eyes on me. I quickly averted my gaze once again,

"I know my scars aren't pretty but you don't need to look away all the time." I snapped my head back over to him, eyes going wide,

No no! Its got nothing to do with the scars! Hell I've got plenty of them myself, eyes contact just makes me a bit uncomfortable. Plus I don't really know you that well." He nodded and turning his gaze back out to the street,

"Makes sense, so all three of us have trust issues." I guessed he was referencing to Keigo back didn't inquire, even though that was news to me.

The public figure and great speaker Hawks has trust issues?

What on earth could have caused that?

Did something happen before he debu-

"Hero." Dabi hissed quietly, almost slinking further into his disguise if that was even possible. I felt an electrical current off to my right behind me and turned my head to look. Sure enough there was a female hero on patrol, she was short and had yellow hair, much like mine actually. She also had a black streak on the left side of her hair, and she had sea green eyes...

She was quite familiar actually.

I couldn't quite put my finger on it though.

After a few more moments of studying the hero thats when it hit me.

My eyes went wide and I froze, coming to a complete standstill. Dabi kept walking a a brisk pace but quickly noticed my absence, walking back over to me,

"We need to go Kaminari, we cant have her recognize me." He spoke with quiet fierceness, however after searching my face for a few seconds he spoke much softer, "Kaminari? You ok?" I barely heard him and most certainly didn't regesture what he had said.

I could only focus on the pro hero.

Images and memories flashed through my mind as I stared at her, though when I blinked, she was gone.

Dabi pov~

I had no idea what Kaminari had seen, but it clearly wasn't doing him any good. His eyes were wide and his body was frozen in shock and tension, he was almost... afraid?

I put a hand on his shoulder, only for him to flinch away, now looking at the floor. Again I tried to get a response from him by calling his name, but nothing was working.

It was then that I realized his breathing had sped up and tears were forming in his eyes, he stood stock still and his hands were bunched up in fists, the knuckles turning white.

Out of options and hearing the hero coming back this way, I took the reckless option. I grabbed the boy and threw my coat over him, effectively hiding him underneath. I put one hand around his middle and put the other around the back of his head, before placing my own head on top of his. He was now completely hidden from view and I could feel his trembling body next to mine. I muttered a few calming words in hope of grounding him, and I could feel him bring his hand up to clutch my shirt.

After a few minutes and after the hero had left and I heard Kaminari start to speak so I pulled my coat off of him,

"Sorry." he murmured, brushing a tear off his cheek and looking down at his shoes,

"You've got nothing to be sorry for kid." He looked back up at my eyes before averting his gaze to look at the street behind me,

"This might sound stupid but I knew that hero." I cocked my head as a sign that I was listening, something I had picked up from Keigo "It urm..." he hesitated and started fiddling with his hands, "It was my mother." He whispered and closed his eyes.

Just from the way he had reacted and from my knowledge of what a shitty family he had, I was angered.

Not by Kaminari.

It was then that I knew that I had to protect this kid at all costs.
