When Steven stepped foot on the other side of the cave, his eyes were nearly blinded by the sunlight and his long sleeved clothes began to weight him down because of the intense heat.
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he did a full circle to analyze where he was. He didn't see any sign of the two boys he was chasing earlier, but all of his doubts were suddenly paused when a voice rang down his ears, one he didn't recognize.
"Rami, (Y/N), your dinner's getting cold," a woman yelled out, and when Steven set his eyes on her, he couldn't believe his eyes.
That woman was the breathing picture of (Y/N), but her eyes were a different shade of color and wrinkles were beginning to crawl all over her cheeks and hands. Steven didn't have to think twice and guess that this was her mother.
Two other figures, one of a boy and the other of a girl, showed their faces from hiding in between the bushes with dirt all over them.
"Coming!" little (Y/N) cried out to her mother, and Steven resisted the urge to awe at the sight of her younger self.
Little (Y/N) lowered her gaze back to the boy, who Steven recalled to be named Rami, and gave him a toothless grin. Steven saw the similarities between her and Rami, but the boy looked much more younger than her and with a hint of mischief.
"Last one to the house is a rotten egg!" little Rami told his older sister, who seemed thrilled.
"Oh, you're on!" (Y/N) shoved him to the side to have the advantage and Rami made a sound of protest from the back of his throat.
Their mother peeked out from the back door of their house, any sign of calmness leaving her features once she spotted her two children running over where she stood with full speed. Steven felt like an intruder because of watching a scene like this, but he couldn't help but feel curious about what was going to happen.
"Kids!" she cried out, a foreign accent dripping out from her voice that Steven frowned at. "Stop it!"
Rami and (Y/N) didn't listen to her protests and forgot about heading towards their house, changing the objective of their challenge to chase the other around the backyard with speed, running around the grass with giggles filling the air.
But that laughter filled mood quickly shifted when (Y/N) stopped chasing her brother and began to cough loudly, trying to catch her breath in a desperate attempt before her knees buckled.
Rami dropped his silly behavior and his eyes had a look of guilt all over them, slowly backing away from his sister while his mother rushed over with urgency and anger radiating off her.
