The morning the film project was due, I passed by Weston's room to go get my coffee. I noticed his door was open, and he was asleep with his head on his desk, the computer still open editing the project.

"Weston?"

"Huh?" He said, his voice sounding groggy, opening his eyes. He sighed, sitting up and rubbing his eyes under his glasses. "Anais." He mumbled, stretching. "Alright Anais..?"

"Did you stay up all night editing the project again?" I asked him, leaning against his door-frame.
"Yes?" He said, as if it were a question. He put his hand to his head, like he always did when he had a headache. "How long until it's due?"

I checked the time. 8am. "Three hours." I replied, leaving and heading to the kitchen.

When I finished my coffee I grabbed a glass of water and some painkillers, and walked back to Weston's room.
I knocked on his door.
"No..." He replied, through the door.

I came in, and he was lying down in bed facing away, the lights switched off now.

"I got you painkillers." I said quietly, and he propped himself up on his elbows as I came over and sat down on his bed next to him.
"Oh hey, thanks mind-reader." He said, taking the water and tablets from my hands.

I watched him lean his head back as he downed the whole glass, his tired eyes nearly closed. I wished I could get into bed with him and nestle my face into his neck and fall asleep.

When he finished the glass he set it down on his bedside table and looked at me, tilting his head to the side.

"I always wonder," He said, wiping his mouth. "What you're thinking when you do that."

"What?" I said, quickly, feeling mortified. "Like what?"

"You look at me like you want to kill me. I'm just curious." He replied, so casually.

"Well I'm planning a really brutal one." I said, standing up. "Unnecessarily violent. You'll never see it coming." I added when I left the room. I cringed at myself as I walked back to my room.

I played minecraft in my room for the next two and a half hours before we had to go to class.

As Weston and I walked to class together, we avoided talking about the project. I think we knew just as well as the others did that it was badly acted and unfinished. It was meant to be scary, but it was just scarily bad. I was so scared of failing, and this deadline had been in the back of my head and deep in my gut, welling with anxiety. Now it all had to surface.

"I hope Jade's okay." Weston said, and I was shocked that he was more concerned more about the kitten than the project.
"She'll be fine, it's only two hours." I assured him. I was sure that sounded like a long time for him, since we'd gotten her they'd been totally inseparable.
"And you-?"
"I fed her, yeah, don't worry." I assured him.

For once, the classroom was completely full, since it was project-showing day. I sat in one of the only free seats near the back, as close as I could to where Weston was sitting. I looked over to see Sam and Olivia sitting together, and Isabelle sitting with Toby behind them. Kalynn was next to Weston and joking around with him about something, which was nice to see.

"Alright guys, today we're looking over the group projects, as I'm sure you all know..." Our teacher said, pulling down the projector screen at the front of the class and flicking off the light switch. "Group one, you guys ready?"

Someone from the first group went up and plugged a USB stick into the teacher's computer, starting up their short-film. Then the next group, and the next.
