╭┈──── ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ ASHLEY GOODE HAD DIED ON the 19th of July, 1978, alongside Cindy and Ziggy Berman, but only one was revived. It was reported in newspapers across the county, both Shadyside and Sunnyvale coming together to grieve the eleven people dead, both sides affected. Ashley had been the only Sunnyvaler killed, it had been different to the massacres before, because the ‘perfect’ town had been hit too. While Shadyside grieved for their loss of ten people, Sunnyvale grieved for their only victim. Nick had been in charge of the ceremony that took place in Ashley’s honor, people speaking about how they knew her, and specific invitations were given for attendees.

Ziggy didn’t get an invitation.

She came anyway.

Everyone spoke about Ashley as if she had made a personal connection with each of them, but Ziggy knew better. Though she had known her for a day, Ziggy knew she wouldn’t forget Ashley for as long as she lived, and that, to her, meant she knew her better than anyone in that room. She had stood at the back of the church as Ashley’s coffin laid at the altar, lid closed to remind them all that it was only filled with sandbags, the girl’s body never having been found from that night. Ziggy didn’t know what had happened to Ashley, why her body had been hidden away specifically, but she knew that it had to be important. Something was wrong. And she knew what she had been through even if no one else believed her.
