Austin and I should be packing up our things to leave for the Memphis premier of 'Elvis' right now but instead, he's calling every OB/GYN he can find near Nashville to try to get me an emergency appointment within the hour as I'm stress packing and cleaning our hotel room.

I can not have a child right now. My album's coming out. I was hoping to tour. Austin and I have seriously only known each other for a month which is insane because we know each other inside and out but suddenly every flaw of his becomes clear to me. He wipes his mouth with his sleeve instead of his napkin, he showers suspiciously fast, and he ties his shoes with two bunnies instead of one bunny and a loop. I barely know him.

I'm definitely not ready to have a whole ass child with him. I mean what if he wants to be a crunchy parent? We haven't even talked about moving in together, much less a child. We've never even talked marriage, for Christ's sake!

Austin's voice interrupts my worries, "I got an appointment but her slot's only open for like forty minutes so we have to get going quick." I nod and we throw on our shoes and head out the door.

Once we make it to the office, around 10 am, we're immediately escorted back to the exam room where a nurse draws my blood, and I change into a gown and lay on the table.

Shortly, the OBGYN walks in, introducing herself to Austin and I as Dr. Nelson. "Hello Isla! It's so lovely to see you. You too, Austin." I reply with a smile as she continues, "We're just going to have you quickly answer a few questions before we get started." She sits down on the rolling stool as she begins asking, "How are you feeling today?"

After a short exhale I respond, "Stressed, worried, concerned, about any other possible synonym of those words." Austin squeezes my hand as Dr. Nelson reminds me it's okay and normal to feel like that.

"Now this question may sound goofy, but are you sexually active?"

"Yes," I answer simply, stating the obvious.

"And how many sexual partners have you had in the last 3 months?"

"Just one," wanting this to get over with quickly, I add, "Sorry but how many questions are there?"

"Just a couple more, Isla. When was your last menstrual cycle?"

"Ummm," I think. "About 8 weeks ago?" I'm somewhat unsure about it other than the fact that I know I haven't had it since I've met Austin.

"Alright, and are you in any pain today?"

I shake my head. "Not much, I mean a little headache, but I'm just stressed so that's why. And my stomach hurts a little bit. Like cramps but not bad." So far, Austin hasn't said a word. He's been sitting right next to me holding my hand tightly, gently rubbing the back of it with his thumb.

"I only have a few more questions. Are you using any forms of birth control?"

"I have an IUD implant and we always use condoms." I assure her.

"Okay, there's still a chance you could be pregnant, but it would be very very small," she says in her perky voice, setting down her clipboard and spinning around to grab instruments.

She faces back towards us as she lets us know what she's doing. Dr. Nelson explains as she squirts the heated gel on my stomach. "Normally there'd be a tech doing this part and I'd just look at the results, but it seemed like this was very urgent so I figured we would try to skip unnecessary steps."

Austin finally speaks, "Yes, thank you so much, Dr. Nelson, for squeezing Isla in on such short notice."

As she massages the tool around my stomach, looking at the screen she says, "No problem. Where are you two headed after this in such a rush?" trying to make small talk.
