Chapter 22

Author's POV

The two siblings had set off on their journey to Germany, but before that Wei Wuxian wanted to visit Yilling to see if everyone there was doing well, he still loved them and thought of them as family of course. (my pure bby I love u sm ;-;)

Fayre Yang was reluctant for obvious reasons but after puppy dog eyes from Wuxian, she had to give in (understandable) but with the promise that she will come along with him. Wei Wuxian was incredibly excited because one, he got to see the aunties, and uncles again, and two his sister could meet them again!! it was a win-win situation in his opinion!

So with a skip to his step Wei Wuxian excitedly dragged Fayre with him on the familiar road that was once his 'home'. Being back brought so many memories, the Wen's, his little radish, Qing-Jie scolding for getting potatoes again. He remembers the aunties fussing over his health and the uncles telling him stories as they drank wine together.

He walks down the familiar bustling streets hand in hand with his sister, seeing the familiar stalls selling the foods he grew up with causes a heavy feeling of nostalgia to crash over him. He remembers taking his A-Yuan with him many times, all the aunties and uncles would coo over them and give A-Yuan toys and food.

Walking together with Fayre Wei Ying told her of these little things with a look of melancholy on his face as she squeezed his hand to comfort him.

As they were walking through the town a voice stopped them.

"A-Ying..?"

Wei Wuxian turned around so fast Fayre worried he snapped his neck, when she turned around herself there she saw a familiar young woman standing there. Her long black hair was tied in a ponytail, she was dressed in simple black and red clothing, her eyes were wet with tears and her thin hands clutched the front of her black cloak that had fallen off her head.

Wei Wuxian felt his own eyes water when he saw the woman, a broken voice softly asked "Qing-Jie?" That was the breaking point for the woman who in the blink of an eye rushed and embraced Wei Wuxian, his head carefully tucked in her chest as she sobbed into his hair.

It took a second for Wei Wuxian to process but when he finally did he tightly held onto the woman as if she were to disappear any second. His voice crying "Jiejie" like a broken record. Wen Qing held her brother tighter softly saying "Qing-Jie is here, Qing-Jie will protect you."

She lifted her head slightly and saw Fayre Yang standing there with a warm smile on her face and teary eyes, not accepting that Wen Qing reached out to pull the other woman into her embrace and the three of them cried together relishing in each other's company.

After a much-needed reunion, Wen Qing dragged her idiot siblings to greet the other aunties and uncles who pretty much trapped Wei Wuxian in a pile of hugs, they fussed over the three of them and dragged them to their homes. For the first time in many years, the streets of Yilling were filled with joyous laughter and lively cheers.

Wen Qing dragged Wei Wuxian and Fayre to the quiet part of the village while the rest of the villagers prepared a celebration for the night. She led them to a small home surrounded by herbs and little rabbits. The herbs were for her medicine and the rabbits, well...

Flashback

It was a rainy day in burial mounds, all the old uncles and grandmas were huddled up in their small broken huts as a way to stay warm, Wei Wuxian was in his cave writing new notes when footsteps were heard. A cup of tea was put beside him which caused Wei Wuxian to startle.
