"Oh my god," Leo muttered picking up the flashlight that Willow had dropped. "That's just not right man,"
Eddie started shaking at the bars profusely, trying to find some sort of opening. "Sophia?" He called out, but she unsurprisingly didn't answer. "SOPHIA!?" He shook on them harder and Sylvia tried to calm him down.
"Listen, we gotta be quiet or we're no help to anyone, I'm sure there's a door somewhere. . ." She ran her fingers around the walls of the cage, searching for some sort of hinges. "Ahh, right here."
She pulled lightly on the door and surprisingly it swung open with nothing more than a rust squeak. "Kinda weird that it's not locked," Leo said, entering behind Sylvia.
"Well there's not a high chance she's going anywhere," Sylvia looked at the tunnel they had used to enter, it was getting darker. "Guys we gotta hurry."
Eddie ran in with no hesitation and almost cried at the sight of her battered body. He pulled her into his arms, the chains doing nothing to stop him. "Oh my god you're alive," He breathed out quietly, pulling away to find a way to detach the bonds.
Leo rummaged through his bag in search of some sort of tool to help them pry the chains off. He pulled out a large knife. "Think we could use the handle to hit the chains until-"
"Screw the handle," Sylvia said, taking the knife from Leo hurriedly. "We're using the blade." Sylvia stuck the knife under the loop of metal attaching the chain to the bar. They were so tightly bound that Sophia was practically hanging by her wrists, feet barely touching the ground. "God this is so wrong, who would do something like this!?" Sylvia fumed as she popped one of the chains off.
They heard footsteps echoing down the halls as Sylvia struggled with the knife. "It's stuck," She muttered through clenched teeth as she wiggled the knife with difficulty. Leo walked to the entrance of the room they were in. He peeked down the hall and saw silhouettes in the distance.
"Sylvia hurry!" He panicked slightly, looking for anything to protect them with. "Nows a great time!" Sylvia grunted.
"I know, I'm trying!" She jiggled the knife around frantically as it failed to come free. "Come on!" She grunted, hearing the footsteps approaching rapidly. "Yes!" The binds came loose with a loud clank.
The chain slid to the ground, as did Sophia. Before her body could drop to the ground, Eddie caught her in his arms. Holding her tightly as he stood up. I'm never letting you go again, Eddie thought to himself as he looked down on her seemingly perfect (in his eyes) face.
"Guys we gotta go!" Willow yelled, darting out of the cave and down the tunnel. Eerie shadows being cast by the human-like aliens. The others followed after her, Eddie taking up the back, holding Sophia in his arms.
"Crap!" Sylvia yelled as she peered over her shoulder and then forward again. "We're not gonna make it!"
The five gathered at the entrance, the creatures standing in front of them. Their faces sent shivers up and down Sylvia's spine. Their perfectly symmetrical faces. Looking like humans, but wrong. "Hey we don't mean any harm, we were actually just about to leave-"
An alien cut her off with a strange guttural screech. The same one that seemed to make the sound pushed its way through the mass. It had green-looking contour and seemed to be taller than the rest, a small one trailing behind it.
The small one seemed to be speaking English, but with a strange accent. "Please father let them go!" The alien pleaded, sporting a feminine voice. "They didn't ask for this!"
The larger alien shoved her aside and walked closer to the group of kids, his yellow eyes gleaming. He spoke some unknown tongue in a rough voice. The smaller one from before seemed to translate for him. But instead, she shook her head and muttered defiantly in the same alien tongue.
"We need to get out of here," Willow whispered to no one in particular, looking at Sophia who was oddly pale for her usual tan physique.
The alien seemed to take her whisper as aggression and stalked up to them in large steps. Leo stepped in front of everyone and ground his teeth together as he felt the cold breaths of the creature down on his face. He glared up at it venomously and smirked. The alien's eyes widened for a split second before Leo drove a knife up into its abdomen. Immediately everything broke out in turmoil.
"GO! GO! GO!" Leo yelled as everyone darted out of the cave, he peeked over his shoulder to see aliens sprinting at a way faster speed than them. Luckily the biggest one seemed to be slightly slowed down by its minor stab wound, courtesy of Leo.
The smaller alien who had shown no aggression was attempting to catch up to the rest. The group darted through lush woods, Sylvia navigating them back to the pod to the best of her abilities.
"GUYS WE GOTTA HURRY!" Eddie shouted holding Sophia tightly in his arms as he ran, her head of bouncy curls bouncing up and down with each step. As he was running, he felt a small pressure squeeze around his arm. He was so shocked that he almost stopped in his tracks.
"Sophia?" He panted as he ran, taking a glance down at her, only to find her eyes struggling to flutter open. "Yeah, that's it. Open your eyes," He whispered down at her, willing to see her cocoa eyes. She let out a soft whimper and opened her tired eyes. Eddie's face broke into a wide grin, a few tears slipping out of his eyes. "Your okay!" He cried out, checking behind him to make sure the creatures weren't getting too close.
"No," She mumbled unintelligibly, squeezing her eyes shut once again. "It's raining," murmured, feeling a drop of liquid fall down onto her arm.
Eddie shook his head to rid himself of the tears. "Nope, clear as day." Sophia looked up at him puzzled as he ran.
"We're moving," She whispered, as if not fully trusting her voice to work. Eddie nodded at her as she closed her eyes once again. "Goodnight," Sophia breathed, Eddie looked down at her, and then over his shoulder.
The creatures were gaining rapidly, but so was the pod. It was coming closer into view. They burst out of the wood line and headed straight for the pod. Sylvia quickly typed the password and waited impatiently as the door slid open. "GO, GO, GO!"
She shouted, letting everyone into the pod as she stood outside. She slammed her hand on the 'Emergency Lock' button and ran inside. She stood by the edge of the hatch as it closed painfully slowly. Soon as it was about to close, a pair of six-fingered alien hands gripped on the bottom of the door.
Sylvia's eyes widened as the door was being lifted by the creature. "LEO GIVE ME A KNIFE!" Sylvia shouted, Leo's head snapped to the side as he too noticed the door problem.
"Uhh," He fumbled with his backpack, rifling through it yet still not finding what he was looking for.
"LEO! NOW WOULD BE GREAT!" Sylvia shouted as she kicked at the hands with her steel-toed boots, the alien flinched back but seemed unfazed for the most part. "LEO!" She screamed as its face was revealed through the door. Suddenly a green blur rammed into the alien. It was the girl, the young creature who tried to save them the first time.
The door dropped immediately and Sylvia ran to look through the back window. She gasped when she saw the larger of the creatures mercilessly battering the smaller form onto the ground repeatedly.
Sylvia ran and grabbed her helmet jumping onto position on her pilot's chair. "Let's go, is she secured?" Sylvia asked, turning around to see Willow had already hooked her up to some oxygen.
"As secure as she's gonna be, just try not to make the ride too bumpy." Willow strapped herself in, securing her space helmet on as she read Sophia's vitals.
Eddie also strapped himself to one of the seats, once he was fastened in place he reached over and grabbed Sophia's limp hand. "I'm never letting you go," He whispered as the ship shot up into the atmosphere, disappearing with the rest of the night sky.
