THE OCEAN AND everything to do with it had been a focal point for Jaclyn ever since she was a kid. Growing up the way she did was never easy, it was quick, messy and brutal and looking. back on her life now Jaclyn would go as far as to say that she never really did get a childhood as she had to grow up overnight.

But did she ever have a childhood? She was a pirate through and through. It was in everything she did, every corner she turned and every fucking shadow that crept up on her in the middle of the night, haunting her with things that were long in her past

Her life is and has been a series of adventures and smarts hidden by a facade of dumb luck and nonsense as she -- like her namesake -- tried to take flight and escape the pirate life but no matter what she did then or what she does now, the life of an outlaw, a pirate, everything Jaclyn doesn't want to be and yet is kept pulling her back like the tide of an ocean

She wondered sometimes if the only escape from that would be death

With a grim realisation, she wondered whether that may be soon anyway since Davy Jones was after her again and there didn't seem to be much of a plan yet as to how they were going to stop things

Jaclyn Sparrow has always had a complicated relationship with death. That was no secret. She both feared death and knew it was a natural part of life. She had spent years trying to avoid death and was absolutely  reminded that it came for everyone, no matter whether they were immortal or not because while it may not be able to kill the immortal being, it would kill everything around said person like a festering cancer

One of the only truths in life: Death was unavoidable to everyone even if it couldn't touch everyone and kill them in the same sense

But then again: Now Jaclyn wasn't immortal and could be killed and that very thought chilled Jaclyn all the way down to her bones

"Hey, Sparrow!" A voice called to her breaking her out of her thoughts and back to reality. It was then she realised she was soaked and when she looked back at the culprit with her eyes narrowed. All she was met with was a smirk and a tale disappearing back under the water

Jaclyn spat the water out of her mouth and swiped her hand under her eyes. The khol staining under her eyes and going down her cheeks. She levelled the one that dared splash her with an unamused look "Really Syrena? Was that necessary?"

"No" The mermaid shook her head with a small smile "But it was fun"

"Yeah...Yeah"

"Anyway, what were you thinking about so hard that I had to get your attention by splashing you?"

"Why does it matter to you?" Jaclyn sighed resigned. Not so much with Syrena but with the situation as a whole. Jaclyn hated the fact that she put Erica in a position where she had to be responsible for the safety of not only Jaclyn but that of her crew
