AS THE SUN rose the next day, everyone was up and working earlier than usual. Michonne, Rosita, Ellie, and Mimi found Maggie, telling her of the Glenn mystery now that the cleanup effort was done.

"The town was overrun." Michonne started, voice shaking. "He split off with Nicolas. He had this idea that...if he lit a fire, it would stop the walkers from coming here. I tried to go instead. I wanted to." She swallowed her spit thickly. "The fire never got lit. We had to keep going. I'm sorry." Maggie placed a shaking hand over her mouth. "He said if he got stuck, he would find a way to send us a signal." The Guilt in the Hawthorne woman's voice was evident.

"A signal?" Maggie repeated softly.

"Open the gate!" Rick's voices echoed loudly. "Open the gate!"

Ellie took off without hesitation, pulling the latch off the gate quickly. "What is it Deanna? What'd you see?" She called to the leader who stood on the watch perch. She didn't answer her, her breath shuddering violently.

"Open the gate, now!" Rick yelled again. Ellie didn't wait for the woman to answer her, pushing the chain length as Michonne and Maggie ran up to help.

Together, the three women pushed the metal barred gate away, Rick slamming his shoulder into a walker and falling to the ground.

"Shit." Ellie grabbed her knife, running out and slashing and stabbing at the walkers that got too close to him. "Come on, Rick!"

She grabbed his arm, pushing him to his feet before running after him into the community. They pulled the gate closed quickly, the monsters slamming against it with arms flailing and teeth snapping.

Everyone in the community stood around the walls, listening to the snarling in fear. Rick walked up, having cleaned himself off from his long run.

"You can hear it." He drew their attention. "Some of you saw it. They got back here, half of them. Still enough to surround us twenty deep." The townspeople paced, running nervous hands down their tired faces.

"Look, I know you're scared. You haven't seen anything like this. You haven't been through anything like this. But we're safe, for now." The leader assured them. "The panel the truck hit seems intact. We reinforced it just in case. Either way, the walls gonna hold together. Can you? The others, they're gonna be back."

"They're gonna be back." Rosita repeated, knowing the nerves that radiated off of Ellie and AJ because of their missing father. Rick nodded to the woman.
