The quartet sat nervously in the waiting room, fidgeting with their fingers and bouncing their foot up and down whilst glancing at each other to the raindrops on the windows until they hear their principal's voice calling from her room, "Alright, all of you may come in."
Adam was the first to stand, his hands shaking slightly as he reaches for the door knob with the girls tailing behind him, following the boy as he stepped into the room. After the three of them sat down on the black leather couches, Deirdre was the last to close the door before she made her way to sit beside Ivory.
Thanks to the office's air conditioner, the room was colder than the weather outside and Ivory had to subtly cover her nose with her hand as the smell of the citrus air freshener was starting to give her the ick.
They watch as Principal Benedetta signs on a piece of paper before she looked up at the four, with her elbows on her desk as she placed her chin on her intertwined fingers,
"You must be wondering as to why i've called the four of you here."
They nod, gulping silently as they waited for her to continue.
"Look, i don't want to rub you off the wrong way but," the Principal sighs as she took 4 pieces of paper, getting up to pass them to the students. As the quartet took the documents hesitantly, the Principal sat back down at her desk and gave them a moment of silence, allowing them to read the letters.
After a while, Vivian's eyes widened once again as she looked up at the principal as she exclaims, "You're kicking us out?!"
"No- See, this is what i mean by my previous statement," the woman began to frown when she noticed the worry washing over the teens' faces, "we're not expelling you, we are simply transferring you to a school that accepts your.. otherworldly qualities"
"Oh i get it-," Ivory threw her document onto the coffee table in front of her, crossing her arms in an attempt to hide her sharpened nails as she asks, "So because of our overnight change, we can't hang around 'normal' humans anymore?"
The principal shook her head, removing her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose before she wore them again, "I can assure you that It's not like that at all, we are just moving you to a place where you can be free to be who you are, somewhere you won't be harassed-"
"So basically this school isn't safe for us to be who we are?" Deirdre spat, getting up to slam her hands onto the principal's desk, joined by her mates as they circled beside her, "or rather, what we've become?"
Despite feeling uneasy, Principal Benedetta kept her composure as well as her gaze at the quartet, clearing her throat as she continues to explain.
"No. If we could, we would've kept you here. But for your well-being and education, we have decided to move you to Nevermore Academy."
The group turned to each other, exchanging the same confused glances as Ivory turned back to question; "Isn't that like, a state away from here?"
"Indeed- Yes." the woman quickly nodded, "i've contacted your parents earlier this morning about your transfer and you'll be settling in this Wednesday."
The group then went back to sit down at their couches, grabbing their letters once again as they reread the acceptance letter.
"So, are we out of the school's system?" Adam asked once, to which the principal simply shook her head,
"Not yet, but once you're there, your records will be moved to the academy's system."
"So, since we're technically out of here.." Adam folded his letter, "does that give us an early leave for today?"
"If you'd like to, i'll notify your parents and we can host a farewell party tomorrow-"
"Oh, no need-" Ivory immediately stood up, having a pursed smile on her face as she placed her letter into her backpack. She gestured towards herself and her friends as she slowly made her way to the door, "I'm sure us, 'freaks'- 'outcasts'- whatever- don't need a party from the people who um.. might 'harass' us for who we are."
"I agree!" Adam grinned, standing beside Ivory as Vivian and Deirdre followed suit with smiles on their faces. As Ivory began to twist open the door knob and pushed it outwards slightly, Adam continues his remark, "Just tell them that the four of us have mysteriously disappeared under mysterious circumstances.."
"Now, are we dismissed?" Vivian asked as the boy had already left out of the office, after earning a nod from the principal, Deirdre thanked her before closing the door behind her once again. When the quartet was gone, the woman sighed in relief as she mumbles to herself,
"Thank God, those kids are out of here."
Outside, as the kids walked out the school gates with bright expressions on their faces, Deirdre perked up with a question as they sat by the bus stop, "Hey, guys..?"
"Yeah?"
"Guess we got out-casted!"
The phrase wasn't funny on its own, but thanks to her intonation on it, the group burst into laughter as Ivory gave the girl another playful punch to the shoulder.
