Vampire Mates
9: Xlinx?

Shelly’s Point of View

"Cranelia?” Ramon asked, being the first one to snap out from the shock. I nodded, a grim look on my face. Demetri, who sat beside Ramon, had a mixed look on his face. I pursed my lips.

Demetri had never been a big fan of Cranelia—they used to be best buds, though, long before Cranelia met her soul mate. Demetri immediately looked down on her, and practically dropped her as if she was poisonous.

"But... hasn’t she stopped all contact with humans?” Demetri asked, still shocked. I shrugged.

"Maybe Rose isn’t human." I suggested and booted up my laptop. Demetri protested, "She couldn’t be. What else is she then? Not a werewolf, considering that she doesn’t have the smell of them. She’s not a faerie, because with my advanced eyesight, I would’ve seen her wings. She’s not a witch, because I didn’t see the mark of Meredith on her, and--”

“She has the mark,” I interrupted. Demetri stopped mid-sentence and gaped at me.

“But-but how? I haven’t seen it before…” He stammered, racking through his brain, trying to recall if there were any marks on Rosemarie’s wrist.

“She isn’t a witch. It was a Meredith Seguridad, a sign of protection and safeguard.” I said again. “It must’ve been an ancient witch who did it; it was one of the oldest and strongest symbols in the book.”

"So she isn’t a witch,” Demetri concluded. “And… she isn’t a vampire. There’s no trace of blood in her apartment, nor does she drink blood during meals, and she doesn’t have the canines, and I would’ve known, most probably.”

“But if she’s a completely normal human being, there must be a pretty good reason why Cranelia contacted with her via dream.” I pointed out.

“A Xlinx, maybe,” Ramon, who have been quite throughout our whole discussion, piped up. “A Xlinx would be a perfectly good guess. She’s 18, right? The signs only show 50 days after their birthdays. And… as you all know… Cranelia is a Xlinx too…”

All of us were stunned silent. Ramon had a good point. What else could she be? Not a troll, Nephilim, or a goblin.

“But… but, how?” Demetri mumbled, his eyes filled with puzzlement. I frowned as I worked out the calculations in my head.

“Let’s check on the signs.”

I clicked on the Google V. icon on my home screen. Google V. is the search engine for every vampire throughout the globe to use. To use it, it required your full vampire name, and your vampire ID code. I typed in my full name and my ID, and typed in the search box: Xlinx signs

A link popped up and I clicked on it. The boys gathered around me as the screen loaded. Ramon began to read aloud: “The Xlinx is a race of mortal creatures who are never heard of in the human world. They have special skills, including the ones shown in box 1.7 below. The Xlinx are almost extinct and, if you are a Xlinx, you would have to choose between good or evil when you become a full Xlinx, which is 40 days after your birthday.

“Box 1.1: some of the abilities of the Xlinx includes:

>ability to heal faster

>telekinesis

>telecommunication

>ability to feel others’ emotions

>ability to hear others’ thoughts
