Months after the rebellion, Katniss and Peeta got married. One day, Peeta had to go on a business trip to District 2. Gale was in 2, though, he never saw Peeta. Gale always wanted to call Katniss and hear her voice again, but he didn't know how. The second day Peeta was in two was the day Gale decided to call. His fingers trembled as he punched in the numbers. The phone only rang once. Then he heard her sweet, gentle, voice,
"Peeta!" She exclaimed. Her caller ID said it was from District 2, so she assumed it was Peeta. Gale lost the ability to speak for a moment. "Peeta..." she said softer, "I'm... I'm pregnant," Gale immediately hung up and sprinted into the woods. Tears rolled down his cheek as he sprinted with rope in his hand. He finally got to the perfect tree. Slowly, he took his knife carved something in the tree. Then he hung himself. That night, Katniss was watching the news and saw his body hung on the tree. One tear escaped her eye when she saw what was carved on the tree:
"Katniss, are you coming to the tree?"
