Friday morning started off on a good foot. I got a call from Scottie when I woke up that they won their lacrosse game the day before. They beat Michigan thirteen to nine. Scottie scored what she called a free-position shot. From what I gathered that's when someone on the other team fouls you, and you get to have an open lane shot to goal. It's kind of like a penalty shot in hockey. The only difference though is that when the referee blows their whistle the other team is allowed to stop you from shooting. I thought it was all kind of confusing, and a little bit stupid, but oh well. Scottie scored, and that's a good thing. She said a lot of people on the team had hat tricks, and I asked if people threw their hats on the field. Scottie laughed and said that that kind of thing doesn't happen in lacrosse.
We had a good morning skate at the United Center in preparation for the game tonight. I had a nice lunch by myself in my apartment. It was peaceful, and I enjoyed time to myself. I took a quick nap before heading back to the UC. I got there around the same time as Brandon and Andrew Shaw, so we walked in together. Every guy in the locker started dressing up for the game, and we were all joking around with each other.
Warm-ups went well, but I almost got caught in between Shawzy and the Captain's chest bump ritual. Andrew was nice enough to yell at me as he was skating closer. I quickly moved out of the way, and then waited until Brad Richards skating by to bump our captain. I skated back to the glass and worked on some stick work. Nikolai skated up and pointed at a kid in the stand close by. I nodded and smiled then grabbed a puck from the ice. I skated over to the glass and got the kids attention. He smiled wide as he caught the puck I tossed over the glass. I skated back and continued warm-up.
We ended up wining the game four to three. Teuvo Teravainen helped to finish out the game. It was tied at three, but once Teuvo let one rip from up top, we were in the lead. He ended up winning the belt after the game, and we all congratulated him. I hope that one day, I get to win that belt. I called Scottie on my home in the car, and we talked until I had walked into my apartment. Her team played earlier in the day, and they lost to Penn State thirteen to ten. It took them out of Big Ten tournament, but they are still in the NCAA tournament. She is heading home tomorrow, Saturday, and gets to come to the game Sunday.
I was exhausted from the game, and could hardly keep my eyes open. I passed out on my bed quickly, but not before setting my alarm to wake me up for practice the next day. The next game for the Blackhawks in on Sunday, and I have a pretty good feeling about it.
