Chapter 26

Everything was decided and the three of us went to eat together. Saber was a really nice person and I thought that it would be good to help Astéria make friends. That way she would feel more integrated into this school and it would be easier for me to disappear later on when she would start her killing spree. Astéria said that she liked me because I was being very nice to her so if that was true, by meeting new nice people, she would see how unoriginal I was and get bored. Getting Astéria and Saber closer was perfect in every aspect therefore I went to the cafeteria with a light heart. I was in a very good mood and was smiling happily as we were waiting in line. Saber seemed to have noticed my good mood and asked me about it:

"Did something good happen, Poehina? Or are you just that happy to eat with Astéria?"

Saber did have a weird glow in her eyes when she looked at Astéria but I had no idea what she was talking about so I just smiled:

"I don't know why but I am in a good mood today. It must be because of today's menu."

Saber got suddenly interested:

"What is today's menu?

-Today we will be served sweet potato puree! I love sweet potatoes."

Saber's eyes started shining:

"Me too! They are so underestimated.

-Right? They can take on so many different forms, you have sweet potato puree, fries and even just a sweet potato cut in two and backed with only salt. I love it!

-We have the same tastes! I knew that you were an amazing person, Poehina."

Saber was really excited but she suddenly stopped for some reason and cleared her throat. She focused back on the line and I was surprised by this sudden calm. I was ready to ask her if everything was okay but then Astéria who was standing behind me suddenly talked:

"I didn't know that you liked sweet potatoes that much.

-I do! And of course Orange makes the best sweet potato ever. She makes it quite a lot actually and I munch on it whenever I am bored. It is one of my comfort snacks."

Saber suddenly turned back:

"You and Orange seem quite close."

I nodded:

"We are. She is the best friend I could ask for.

-That's what I thought. You two seemed to always be looking for each other.

-Yes. Orange loves feeding me and she disappeared for long minutes so I got worried.

-Was it when I ran into her?

-Yes, she is not the type to disappear for that long but it turns out she was just talking to you. I was relieved to see you two come back together. You are a nice person, Saber and I think Orange likes you too."

Saber placed a hand on her heart:

"I am honored. I love Orange too."

I smiled:

"Who doesn't love her? She is really shy but is lovely once you get to know her. She is just perfect."

Astéria choked for some reason and I turned to her worried:

"Are you okay?"

I couldn't see her face and she just nodded. Maybe she was like that because Orange didn't like her? I suddenly felt bad. I told Saber that Orange liked her when my best friend specifically told Astéria not to approach us. I had to say something more:

"Orange is very protective of me so I was surprised that she likes you, Saber. You are the first person she doesn't have a problem with. Maybe it's because you are not from around here."
